i agree, he seems like the kind of kid that will do the best with the hand he is dealt, but i was just saying that if the redskins were smart (which they aren't), they would get out of this deal immediately. their plan was obviously to get RG3 then build through free agency, but they cant build through free agency anymore.
Talm i agree with everything you're saying. the redskins have really been backed into the corner with this.
i just think that if heckert + holmgren were smart, they call up the redskins and say "look, we know you guys are screwed, we aren't going to let you fleece us like you got fleeced by the rams, but we will give you an out... 4, 22, and next years second for the 2."
if you're the redskins, thats hard to pass up. you basically save face avoid the issue of having to build through free agency without any cap space.
How do they save face? They would be without a franchise QB and also not have #1 picks for the next two years... The fan base would riot.
Keep in mind that the Shanahans' contracts run out in 2 years. They aren't worried about the long-term prospects of the team, they need to win now. There is no way the Browns make a trade with the Skins for the #2 pick.
As fans, we tend to view all of this stuff in a vaccuum. We want the Browns to be better, and we think RGIII would make us better, so we imagine scenarios where the Browns end up with RGIII on the roster. We had all of the power to make the best reasonable offer for RGIII, so the Redskins decided to make an unreasonable offer. Now they are being punished for cheating the salary cap 2 years ago, and they are going to be hurt in free agency. Again, I suspect Snyder and the Shanahans to fuck that up now too, and try to delay the inevitable until next year. They will still be fairly big players in free agency this season, and really decimate their chances of evolving their team.
RGIII is going to be a very good football player; maybe a great one. But the Redskins screwed themselves out of a future to get him. And now they've been screwed out of the present by poor decisions in the past. However, they now have RGIII, and their best bet at this point is to roll with him and hope for a miracle.
