2012 Offseason: Quarterbacks

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
he's saying that the offense that he ran at baylor isn't elementary at all. i take it as: the browns were surprised at his knowledge of the intricacies of an advanced passing attack.

i assume that as well, but could also mean the exact opposite, the baylor tree isnt complicated, everyone knows it, and he got caught in a lie.

I wouldnt say i believe he was lying, but it is a possibility, though unlikely.

The Baylor offense isn't as simple as the 1 read spread that is prevalent in college football. However it isn't as complicated as the "pro-style" offenses that are around.

It is more of an option read where there is a presnap (find the mismatch) and a post snap (see if there is still the same mismatch or if one of the other WRs has a better 1). A check down and run.

I really don't want Matt Flynn to be honest

I want a QB capable of bringing this team to a championship game. I don't really care what name is on the back of that jersey.

what has he proven that he can play well with good weapons, he might look like McCoy too with little and MoMass dropping passes

I know I am going to post what everyone here already knows. The battle of "hold onto the #4, grab Flynn, and build around him or McCoy or go after RG3 will continue up to the draft.

Since Peyton Manning has been grabbing all the National attention I just want to throw out a Peyton Manning/ Cleveland Brown fact.

Not counting last year, but the 13 years prior the Colts have had 1 starting QB:

Peyton Manning

The Browns the last 13 years???? 16 starting QBs:

Colt McCoy
Seneca Wallace
Jake Delhomme
Brady Quinn
Derek Anderson
Ken Dorsey
Bruce Gradkowski
Charlie Frye
Trent Dilfer
Jeff Garcia
Kelly Holcomb
Luke McCown
Tim Couch
Doug Pederson
Spergon Wynn
Ty Detmer

Holy shit man, I dont want Matt Flynn, McCoy or anyone else for that matter. Give me RG3 and win or lose, we take a shot at having a new face of the city not named the "Forth quarter kid"! Give me something to get excited about and put some highlights up. To hell with the 22nd pick if it gets us this guy. Or we add Flynn and add quarterback #17 to this proud but shitty factory of misery.

i would love matt flynn. no average quarterback could have stepped into the situation that he was in and done that. if you think that brady quinn or mccoy could have done what he did then you're nuts. he has talent and knows the WCO. picking him up in free agency gives us a starting quarterback and flexibility.

i would rather have griffin though tbh.

We are well below the cap. Why not sign Flynn, draft RGIII @4, let him sit a year. If Flynn works out we trade RGIII or if doesn't then cut him. I want as many options as possible.

Okay my opinion is slightly changing, Rodgers believes he'll be a top 15 QB....Rodgers has seen that kid in practice and in game better than anyone. Maybe he is the real deal

Does Steve Doerschuk have a twitter account?

Before the Packers Week 17 matchup against an already-in-the-playoffs Detroit Lions team (who were also in the bottom half of the league in pass defense), Matt Flynn's NFL career passer rating was 68.1. For all the people concerned about RG3 being a risk, Flynn is even riskier. I don't know if anyone has generated so much hype over one game.

That's some red-hot garbage on that list for the Browns.

Flynn hasn't proved anything yet, except that he's probably worth a shot.

To be fair, RGIII hasn't proved anything yet either. RGIII is the best prospect out there for the Browns to get this offseason, but he is still a prospect. And despite growing belief that 1 good QB instantly makes a team better, it's not exactly true. Tell me how many QBs taken #1 overall lead their team to a winning season in his first year? The answer is 0. It doesn't happen. RGIII would be a great piece that would lead to us having a championship caliber team, but if the cost is too high, it's not worth it. There will be a prospect in next year's draft that will be just as hyped as RGIII is this year, be it Barkley or someone who no one is talking about yet.

I don't actually like the idea of getting Flynn, but I'll be cautiously optimistic if that's the direction we end up going, because I assume Heckert knows a lot more about him than we do.

If we can't get RGIII, I'd love to see the Browns get Kolb at a discount personally. He did well in the WCO and is familiar with both Heckert and Shurmur. I don't think he's really available for, say, a 6th round pick, but if there was a way to get him, I'd be a fan of it.

Honestly I liked the idea of going after Flynn before he had his huge game. I thought he looked impressive on the rare occasions I got to see him play. After that game it comes down to price, I don't want to break the bank for him.

I'd rather have RG3, but again, not if we have to break the bank to outbid Dan Snyder. I don't care who it is, but I want another QB to compete for the starting spot next year. Colt is not the guy and going into this season with him as your unquestioned starter is a waste. I don't care if it's RG3, Flynn, Weeden, Tannehil. Bring in somebody.

I honestly think one of Matt Flynn, Ryan Tannehill or Brandon Weeden will be a Brown with the likeliest in that order...
