2012 Offseason: Quarterbacks

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The phrase "Missed out on him" is more accurate, I think.

Tannehill is a solid prospect. Don't get the hate on him one bit.

I get that nearly every media outlet has him ranked as a top-20 pick, but I don't understand why.

Passing yards - 3,744 (12th in the nation)
Completion Percentage - 61.6 (53rd in the nation)
Passing TD - 29 (16th in the nation)
Interceptions - 15 (tied for sixth in the nation)

He was only sacked nine times, and he has great mobility. But aside from that, I don't see what all the hype is about. His accuracy isn't anything special, he doesn't have a big arm, he throws a lot of interceptions and he hasn't played the position very much in college.

This isn't an indictment on Tannehill, I just want to know why he is so hyped. What does he do so well that has him ranked by many as a top-10 pick? I feel like I'm missing something. I would love to hear from someone who loves Tannehill why he is such a highly regarded prospect.

Stats don't tell the story with this guy. Unless you've watched him play there is no reason to think he could be successful in the NFL. For those who have seen him though, they know he has the potential. That's basically what you're drafting this guy on, potential. He's not going to come in and light the league on fire like Newton, in fact he likely won't even play. But if he gets in a situation where he can sit and learn for a year or 2, he could end up being a damn good NFL QB. All the physical tools are there and he has the smarts for it. He just lacks experience.

That's my question though, why do scouts like his potential so much? From what I've read, he is not an accurate passer, has poor instincts and an average arm. What is it specifically that scouts like so much? What is there that they can mold into an elite QB?

From what I know, he lacks anticipation, and isn't great at going through his progressions and reading defenses. This is all due to a lack of experience though, all of that can be taught to a guy.

I know his arm is good, he can make all the throws, has nice zip, it's no Mike Vick cannon but it's definitely solid.

I know I am going to get bashed for this one but he is fearless like a young Favre (and just as much of a gun slinger). He has an arm (actually better than most) can make the NFL throws. He does lack the experience and progressions but he can read a defense.

#Browns HC Pat Shurmur: "We're moving forward with Colt McCoy as our starting quarterback."

Yet we are going to bring in another QB.

Holmgren said we aren't down on Colt but he is going to keep bringing in new QBs. (Radio show last night).

Some years it is going to be Jarrett Brown, another year it might be a better QB. I think the idea is that they're going to take a look at a lot of QBs so they can hopefully find one that can blossom into a stud. This year, think Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, Case Keenum, Nick Foles, etc.

I hope McCoy has a great year just so all the haters will be like oh I believed in McCoy all along

He will be good enough just to get us out of the top 5 and miss a good QB next year.

how many good Qb's will there be next year, Barkley Bray Wilson I'll stretch and say McCarron (don't know if he'll be good at next level) I doubt they all go top 5 next year

I haven't seen Bray play enough but have seen Wilson and Barkley
