2013 NFL Free Agency: Browns

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Talib signs with Pats on one year deal according to Schefter.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Free-agent CB Aqib Talib reached agreement with the Patriots on a one-year deal.</p>— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) <a href="https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/312953046290292737">March 16, 2013</a></blockquote>

So, scratch another corner off the list. It's looking more and more like Milliner every single day that passes.

EDIT: Shit I was real late on that one. :chuckles:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Talib was only in coverage for 418 snaps last year, but found a way to surrender 775 passing yards. <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23Elite">#Elite</a>?</p>&mdash; Pro Football Focus (@PFF) <a href="https://twitter.com/PFF/status/312957532534616064">March 16, 2013</a></blockquote>

PFF
...he (Talib) did give up a touchdown or first down on 7.8% of his coverage snaps (second highest of any cornerback in the league).

Talib is a gambler. Our CBs are going to be on an island a lot since we will be blitzing often. Seems like here, he would get burned an awful lot. Not sure Talib was ever in the cards.

Dallas is a great city. Went to college there suck it and had a great time. Great mix of barbecue, fine steakhouses, Tex-Mex and standard fare, a cool art district and a couple great areas for college kids.

It's got all that Texas suck it has to offer culturally within about 30 minutes (Ft Worth), but Dallas suck if itself is very cosmopolitan and wealthy. Economy is diverse and strong there as well.

If I was to live anywhere away from my family, Dallas would be my choice. It's actually suck it better to live there than it is to visit.

2400 points!

Per source with knowledge, Talib passed on two other multi-year offerAs to stay in New England on one-year contract http://wp.me/p14QSB-7CPU

And:

<s>#</s>Browns are out of it for Brandon Myers. Considering a few other teams at this pt. Looks like its Fred Davis or bust for <s>#</s>Browns at TE now

It's funny that you went from Carolina to Bowling Green, whereas I went from Bowling Green to Carolina. But yeah, Charlotte is really nice. Downtown, South End, and NoDa in particular are all great areas if you're in your twenties and like to go out on the weekends.

I've definitely got to get back to BG some time in the near future, though. I'm craving some Mr. Spots and a trip to City Tap. :)

When were you at BG? Also an alum. They opened a city tap in Cleveland if you're ever in town.

Green Bay offered him $10M per year before he hit free agency, and Jennings thought he could get more. Once he hit free agency, Green Bay decided to move in a different direction on principle. So Minnesota actually paid him less than Green Bay was offering, I wouldn't really call that desperate.

I think it's really desperate from Minny's viewpoint. They lost Harvin and Winfield for nothing and were desperate to make any kind of splash so they signed Jennings for big money based mostly off of past production instead of what most people expect him to give them in the future. They did that despite him coming off of his worst season and about to hit 30 years old, so chances are they'll have to eat up some of his contract in the future. If I were a Vikes fan I'd much rather they spent the money on several "lesser" younger receivers who might end up being bargains.

edit: by losing Harvin for nothing, I meant losing Harvin for nothing *yet*. Of course they released Winfield, so they got absolutely nothing for him.

I went to college and grad school there. Lived there for about eight years total, from 2003 until 2011. College, grad school, and about a year of job hunting before I got offered my job in Charlotte. Hell, most of that year was this job's drawn out interview process. I applied, had a phone interview a month or two later, didn't hear from them for about four months before they finally got in contact again and flew me down for an actual interview, then waited another three or four months until the job offer came, at which point they told me they wanted me to start in three weeks.

And yeah I've been to the City Tap in Cleveland a couple of times. One of my friends used to live about a block away from the Q, so whenever we went down for games we'd hang out there and hit up the surrounding bars.

I guess we were there at the same time then. You're older than me, but I was there from 07/08-2011.

Some tight-end notes ... TE Kellen Davis, already having visited the Steelers and Saints, has drawn interest from the Browns and Bengals ...

Kellen is a pure blocking TE type.

Albert Breer ‏@AlbertBreer
... And the Browns also remain in on TE Fred Davis, whom the Redskins are continuing to try and keep.

@jeffphowe
The Patriots will release Brandon Lloyd, according to a source.

Maybe a vet WR for us?

I am a Vikings fan, you couldn't be anymore wrong on how our fan base feels about signing Jennings vs. others. Signing "lesser" WRs means we are going into the season with "lesser" guys and rookies at WR. Sounds like a winning recipe....Jennings is coming off one of his worst years because he was hurt and missed the majority of the season, then when he came back he was the 4th receiving option behind Cobb, Nelson, and James Jones (big reason he left GB). 2 years of his contract are guaranteed, don't see how the F.O. will be eating some of his contract in the future, especially seeing as how receivers in their early 30s don't show any less of a drop off production wise lately. For a team desperately needing a WR, this was good deal. We essentially traded Harvin for Jennings, a 1st, 3rd, and 7th rounder. Not bad for a guy who didn't want to be there. As for Winfield, I can talk for about 3 hours about how pissed I am with that move.

It's definitely a splash, I've just seen this play out too many times before. My prediction is that Jennings cashes in at near the value of the contract for possibly a year, then it's a steady decrease until he's a complete dead-weight in the last two years. If they tried to find diamonds in the rough they wouldn't be winning the off-season, but they may well be spending the money better. Fact is Jennings hasn't been healthy the last two years, has had arguably his worst two seasons since his rookie year, and is almost 30. I'd say a lot of factors point to him being on the downswing of his career. I wouldn't bet on him living up to the contract, but I'll be the first to admit I'm wrong if he shows up to be consistently productive throughout the length of the contract.

@ CONCEDE Idk what's public, haven't been around. But it sounds like CLE signed Grimes from ATL # Browns

Guy used to be MFer Jones. I have no idea who he is, but Browns fans on Twitter seem to have some faith in him.

I guess he broke the Haden suspension last year. Time will tell.

God I hope this is true.

Elvis Dumervil is firmly on the Ravens' radar and they hope to meet with him next week, per a league source.

With Talib off the board, still some good CBs left: EJ Biggers has interest from Redskins, Bucs (his old team), Dolphins and Raiders

Guess we aren't looking at Biggers at CB.
