2014-15 Off-Season Thread (Moss Acquired - Page 16)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Three people left Brantley off the ballot entirely.

I would imagine it was because they just went:

1. Mike Trout
2. Mike Trout
3. Mike Trout
4. Mike Trout

Andy Marte is making $1M to play baseball this season, what are you doing with YOUR life?

The Indians have now hired two scouts from Baseball America this off-season (four in total now).

And honestly, there are few people I respect more than Clint given his tireless efforts across college baseball during his time at BA.

He's as legit as it gets on that scene, I'm glad the Indians were able to scoop him up.

Sooo....that Giancarlo deal though...:doh (17):

Are the Tax payers gonna be stuck with that contract or will that be their wonderful owner?

I hope Giancarlo stays down there. Really don't need him in Boston, or anywhere in the AL for that matter.

He's not worth that kind of money. Nobody is.

Torii Hunter would be interesting on a one year deal.

This simply isn't true. LeBron is easily worth that to the Cavs. He is worth how much alone in franchise value? I know the Cavs lost 100m in value when he first left, not sure how much their value bumped just by adding hiim. And that doesn't include the bump in ticket sales, endorsements, advertising, etc. Pro sports franchises that are now pushing team values in the billions love to hear fan opinions like yours, keeps more of the profits in their pockets.

As for Giancarlo, only the Marlins know if they can afford that. I think they are simply hedging their bets- if he stays healthy and produces, they will have no problem offloading that contract to the Dodgers, Yanks or Red Sox when the time comes. No trade clauses are simply there so the player can pull more out of a potential trade by demanding concessions from the teams that covet them- it has nothing to do with not wanting to go to those places. It is why the Yanks end up on no-trade lists, because a guy usually wants more money to be dealt there since the Yanks are usually willing to pay it. Point is, if the Marlins aren't going anywhere and one of these teams are and they come calling- he waives it. The Marlins do a bang-up job of making their own employees uncomfortable enough to leave. And with the opt out they have another way of getting out of the deal. Hell, the Rangers found a way to offload the untradeable Alex Rodriguez contract back in the day, probably what the Marlins are thinking themselves.

In the meantime, this deal can possibly be paid for with revenue-sharing dollars alone. The Marlins have always been beneficiaries of it since it was started, and that is by design. If this then boosts ticket sales for the Marlins too, well, win-win for Loria.

I was talking about baseball.

Look at his stats. Good player. Is he really worth more (much more) than a quarter of a billion dollars?

Who exactly would we play at 3rd everyday?

Also, the amount of money Pablo Sandoval is going to get is going to be hysterical. He doesn't get on base at a good clip, he has average power, but it's not that good, and he doesn't make up for it with some amazing amount of contact made either. He's a solid player but this talk of 100+ million is hilarious.

I'd assume trading Chis would be dependent on the acquisition of another 3B. The Sox do have a ton of outfielders - Mookie Betts, Rusney Castillo, Yoenis Cespedes, Daniel Nava, Shane Victorino, Allen Craig, and Jackie Bradley Jr. - and the Indians need one, so there's a fit on that end.
