Right. Pretty big difference in how much they can pay.
I was confident with Miller because of how close he was with LeBron. I'm not sure how close Marion is with LeBron.
If we can land Marion, I'd be extremely pumped, but I'm less confident than I was with Miller.

Dude no...just no. No cap space let alone the fact he's extremely injury prone. Even if he takes his QO next year we would have to pay him or we lose him. We also can't have Love, Irving, Bledsoe, and AV as our starting 5 because the chances of all them being healthy is slim to none. Ideas like this make my head hurt.

Cavs need to get going unless we are getting a center from Philly or Minn as part of the Love trade. Since the Cavs are not working out these guys, could we be getting Moultrie or Dieng?

Bynum is sitting out this year to get knee surgery. This maybe a good situation for Greg Oden for him to have access to the Cleveland Clinic, Bynum was in excellent shape here and was able to play much more than people expected him to despite his history of injuries. Really there is no one that shines in this FA center class.

Re: Marion...it all comes down to how badly he wants a shot at another title. If he wants to serve a valuable role in competing for a championship, he'll sign with us. If he wants to get paid, he'll sign with Indy.

I was under the impression that Indy was well over the cap. Do they have an exception remaining? A portion of the MLE left? Just not clear as to what they can actually offer him above the same vet minimum that we can.

2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)
The CBA offers a "Disabled Player Exception" that allows teams over the cap to sign players up to a certain amount if a current player is out for the season with a medical reason. It's basically compensation for Paul George getting injured.
EDIT: I looked up further details on the exception...and the contract can only be for one year, and for up to 50% of the injured player's salary.

Certainly possible. I think he is pretty close with Love and fills a position of need. If we can't add a center in another way using Jazz guys, he'd make a lot of sense.
Then we just use Haywood, Varejao, Love, Tristan, and Turiaf at C at different times.
Next summer C becomes a priority.
