Paul George still creating ripples

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

The versatility off the bench will be key. Miller will probably get more minutes in the floor at SG than SF and will probably play a lot with LeBron.

Marion will be the main reserve at SF but can also play with LeBron and a Center in the front court as he can match up on most 2,3,4's

Tristan will get minutes at PF and Center.

Jones likely doesn't play much short of the usual 3-5 games a year LeBron sits out with little things and any time Miller might miss.

The rotation and matchup possibilities are endless and in Blatt we have a coach who loves being creative and exploiting matchups.

Wow... this would be fantastic. Love, Marion, Thompson, AV. If Marion signs soon we know for sure Bennett is gone and as mentioned confirms Love deal is done. Either way Bennett is gone.

If it's reached Woj level and Indiana is moving on/looking elsewhere, it's pretty close to being a done deal. Fingers crossed until it's official though.

The super small ball 3 pointer line up of Kyrie Miller Marion LeBron Love has me foaming at the mouth. So many points to be scored.

I will be so pumped when this goes down... If. Anyways it seems as if Marion would help solve the D issue and would be another great mentor to our young core. Love, Billups or Ray next and call it an off-season?

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

Marion has averaged double figures every single year in the league, he's still a very good rebounder and a more than serviceable defender. He could take a step back and still be a very serviceable reserve on this team. Landing Marion would be a very underrated pickup.

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

Depending on what assets we have after a Love trade, I'd love to swing a deal for Timofey Mozgov. Or even Javale McGee next summer with Haywood's contract.

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

A key bit of info from Aldridges article:

http://www.nba.com/2014/news/08/06/pacers-apply-for-disabled-player-exception/index.html

The Indiana Pacers are expected to apply to the NBA for a disabled player exception in the wake of forward Paul George's gruesome broken leg, according to a league source.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the Pacers can apply for the exception between now and next January 15. The NBA would then designate a physician who would examine George. If the physician determines George, as everyone currently believes, will not be able to play at any time in the 2014-15 season, the league would grant the exception to the Pacers.

Indiana could then either sign a free agent for one year at either 50 percent of George's salary for next season, or for the non-taxpayer midlevel exception amount, whichever is lower. In this case, with George on a max contract, the Pacers would get a $5.3 million exception to use on a free agent.

The Pacers could also trade for a player in the final year of his contract, with similar limitations. However, Indiana could acquire a player making up to $5.4 million next season under the CBA's rules. The Pacers could also claim a player off waivers in the final year of his deal at $5.4 million.

Indiana has been pushing to sign veteran free agent Shawn Marion, according to sources.

Whether the Pacers would use the full disabled exception is not clear. If they did, they would exceed the luxury tax threshold by about $3.7 million. Team president Larry Bird has said repeatedly that team owner Herb Simon does not want to pay tax next season.

If this is true, than the Pacers would offer no more than 1.6-2 million for one year for Marion. The Cavs could offer a 2 year deal with a player option after year one for about 1.5 million.

So no brainer, Marion is coming here over Indy unless the Pacers owner does a complete about face.
