I'm guessing it'll come down to Chauncey Billups or Ray Allen for the final guard spot. Doubt we sign both, and I think Allen has the leg up if he chooses to not retire.

There has also been talk about Ray waiting till the start or mid season to sign. I would prefer to sign Ray and have Chauncey on the staff

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

There's a couple reasons I'm not too crazy about signing Billups. Even though he's a great leader I think he's more or less washed up as a player at this point, and I selfishly don't want him to sign because I want Delly to be showcased more. I think Delly can easily give you whatever you get from Billups.

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

I wouldn't mind having Billups. It's not like we have a log jam at the guard position.

I just hope it doesn't mess with Delly's and Waiter's playing time too much

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

Billups is past washed up. He's done.

I would rather pull a page out of HOU's book and sign some young guys with promise (Beverly, Daniels, etc). Think Daniel Gibson.

I mean seriously, what do we pay our scouts to do ? We haven't had a guy outperform his draft slot since Carlos Boozer.

Varejao and Delly come to mind.

Delly? Even better than outplaying his pick position.
They correctly scouted Danny Green. He just took years and multiple cuts before he "got it"

In any event, if Billups is brought in, its as the 15th man/coach in training. With Kyrie, Delly, LeBron, and Dion, we have 4 players who can initiate and lead the offense while making plays for themselves and others.

Billups would be coming strictly for a one year additional mentorship/tutelage for Kyrie and Dion, on the court and in the lockerroom. He's not going to take anyone's minutes.

That's if we even make him an offer and if he doesn't go straight to coaching/FO work.

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

If Billups comes here it'll be as a coach in uniform. He won't get regular minutes.

Someone made this point earlier, but besides getting some vet talent, you can really tell what the Front Office and Coach Blatt are really doing here... Bringing in champions who know, live, and breathe a winning culture.

Guys like Miller, Jones, Marion, Billups, Allen, they'll only be around for a year or two. But their lasting impression on Kyrie, Love, Dion, Tristan, Delly, Joe Harris, and anyone else young that we sign or draft next summer will hopefully last much longer than that.

To be fair we've drafted high recently in some of the weakest drafts in the history of the nba.

Pretty awesome that we continue to get Woj bombs for this team. This has certainly been a "monumental" off-season like Griff said it would be.

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

I can't believe how incredible this team is going to be. This very well might be the best team this city has ever fielded in any sport.

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

So...

Irving/Delly/Billups?
Waiters/Allen?/Harris
LeBron/Miller/Jones
Love/Marion/Powell?
Varejao/Thompson/Haywood
