2014 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not Indians related, but what the hell has happened to Javier Baez? He was expected to be a June call up to avoid Super 2 status, but he's currently batting .165 with 47 K's in 32 games. I knew he wasn't the most disciplined hitter, but this is ridiculous.

Danny Salazar starting today for Columbus.

Based on those numbers, I would say the problem is that he isn't hitting.

He has to straighten it out. Jumping to AAA after doing so well at AA shouldn't do that to a guy's numbers. No doubt he is seeing alot more breaking balls for strikes at AAA but that is also accompanied by lower velos across the board... hence why numerous guys who can't hit breaking stuff can still put up monster #s in AAA. He will get it ironed out, it is just going to take him some time apparently. Not every 21 year old is ready for the bigs. Cubbies fans just have to wait.

Salazar out after 2.2 innings, allowed 5ER thus far and on the hook for two more currently on base.

Obviously there is time for him to figure it out, but so far this year for Salazar is looking like last year for Bauer.

Could be an injury. Velocity on his fastball was 2.0 MPH lower this year, same thing with his slider and change up, naturally.

I wouldn't necessarily say Lindor has to "clean his defense up". Errors really don't indicate how well someone is playing defensively. We aren't seeing the games either. He could be committing "errors" on balls most short stops can't even make a play on because of his very good/elite range.

I don't know if there's anything to it, but his strikeout rate has risen a bit this year.

Good thing I have MILB.tv and have watched most of his games...he needs to clean up his defense.

edit: I should probably expand on that, since just that sentence makes me sound like a condescending douche...at least half of his errors this year are off of drops at 2nd base where he is trying to make the turn on a double play too quick...he has a good arm, but he still feels the need to rush his throws like most young middle infielders. He also has done the same thing as the feed man for double plays as well. Gets the ball, rushes the throw over to the 2nd baseman, ball goes into the outfield. That right there is probably how 6 of his 8 errors have occurred, and they are errors that shouldn't happen as he gains more experience with the speed of higher level baseball.

Baez this past week:

429/.433/.929 (12-for-28), 6 R, 5 2B, 3 HR, 6 RBIs, 1 BB, 5 SO

Might be coming out of it. Huge power for that position.

This kid is one of the ones that intrigues me the most with his power potential and the position he plays in the field, wouldn't be surprised to see him moved to 3rd at some point later in his career either.

Too bad the Indians didn't get him...:( We had to settle for the Jack of All Trades guy.

All kidding aside, that draft is looking bonkers. About the only team that could come out with zippo are the dBacks, n they had 2 picks due to shenanigans.
