2014 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wow whats ur take on Frazier?

Concerned about the strikeout rate and his ability to hit the ball to all fields.

Has really elite bat speed, but he's just not a pure hitter and while he gets too often compared to Trout I don't think they're nearly in the same league.

I think Frazier's ceiling is that of a Torii Hunter without the elite defense. Excellent player, not a superstar but a long term fixture for someone in the outfield.

qThe Clint Frazier comparisons to Trout are being done by lazy fans. You might as well compare Jabari Parker to LeBron James. Trout is a once-in-a-generation talent, the best pure player since Pujols. Frazier is not at that level, for the reasons AZ pointed out. Few ever are. It is a lazy comparison that places idiotic expectations on him just because it gets casually floated. I would rather judge him on where he is at, and he is holding his own so far. I'll take it.

As for the depth in the minors at SS and 2B: still a ways to go for it be bigleague depth. I think for the short term they have ammo for trades before the deadline. Otherwise, minor league depth is just that- some will make it, most won't, but it increases their odds of getting bigleaguers out of this mix. Fussing about what could be in 2 years makes no sense, not unless that fuss is over who to deal for a starting pitcher.

As for Jose Ramirez's ceiling, I wouldn't be so keen to place a limit on it. The guy just gets it. He has rocketed through organized ball for a reason, despite not having the physical build that makes scouts drool. It remains to be seen if he can drive the ball enough to be an effective every day bat in MLB but to me that is the only real question. I think his base running is a big plus and he can at least handle himself defensively at SS and 2B. But instincts, quicks, whatever bullshit you want to call it... he has it. And guys like that find a way to succeed. I wish I could come up with a comp right now, Jean Segura is the best I can do. He doesn't have Seguar's defensive chops but I think Ramirez has much better plate discipline. I just see too much to like from him to count him out from continuing to add to his game and become a bigleague regular.

Edit: comp finally dawned on me: Luis Castillo. Had someone in mind for awhile but couldn't place it. Yes, I think he has that potential- same games, almost to a T imo.

I'm not getting too excited just because a majority of his damage is being done in Huntington. Still, it's good to see him doing damage as it's better than the alternative.

Doesn't look like a Hungtington Park hit to me. Might have hit the wall in a bigger ballpark, but lazer shot to the opposite field gap? Just good hitting. Now, whether he gets a nice hanging pitch like that in the bigs is another question- he won't get to face Danny Salazar....

Jose Ramirez has set a career high for HRs less than 1 month into the season. Someone juiced him up this offseason.
