2015 Cleveland Browns Training Camp Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I do think it's worth noting Shelton Richardson went to the Jets at #13, and he is one of the better 3-4 defensive ends in the NFL... but he could have smoked trees with Josh Gordon and been suspended. What can ya do?

Sheldon Richardson looks like he might get lucky this time... He was going 150+ MPH with a 12 year old in his car. Cop smelled marijuana in the car when he pulled Richardson over. Don't think he's being charged with child endangerment or anything related to pot.

I wouldn't call Mingo a bust, dude was quietly one of the bets OLB's at the edge vs the rush. Ironic considering we thought he would become a speed edge rusher.

He'll answer when he Asks Jeeves who that is.

I am guessing Jigo remembers Mike Junkin, i could be wrong.

Junkin is the biggest LB bust in Browns history, personally i dont think Bark is there, but not as far off as one would like.

Johnny to get first team reps at the scrimmage?

Johnny to get first team reps at the scrimmage?

It will be overlooked, but..

1) Pettine said you don't want your backup's first play with the first team to be when he's forced into a game and;

2) Pettine also said that we shouldn't be surprised to see Thad & Connor get some reps with the 1's as well...

That said, it's good to see Johnny going forward than backwards at this point.

Johnny's taking over the starting spot?

Can we all agree that Shelton is living up to what we would expect?

I really think he's a game changer on defense. We might set history numbers on defense this season. It's certainly the best since the team has been back.

If Tramon and Dansby can stay healthy and be their very own selves and not fall off with the likes of Haden, Gipson, Whitner leading the charge, I can only expect a top defense, Shelton makes us mean and nasty and will create opportunities for everyone.

Mingo will be missed, but let's hope he's good to go for the home opener. Better to miss early.

The defensive line had a bad 2014, a lot of their struggles stemmed from injuries. On a good 3-4 defensive line, you want your starters around 65-75% of the snaps at the end of the season. Your second team, or just one DE and one NT, ideally makes up the rest.

Browns had D. Bryant at 63% which is fine. Second highest snap percentage belonged to Billy Winn at 43%, which is a problem since Winn looks like the 6th - 7th best defensive lineman in 2015. Rubin was next at 38% and Kitchen at 25%. Rubin is off the team with little interest in free agency and Kitchen is fighting for a roster spot. Big money defensive linemen Phil Taylor and John Hughes were at 11% each due to injuries.

So what happens when you lose the battle in the trenches? The linebackers have to absorb more second level blocks and the defensive backs make more tackles.

If Shelton demands double teams and makes plays against the run 65-75% of the snaps this seaon, I see a trickle-down that helps everyone absorb less contact and hopefully stay healthier.

I am with you on the potential of the defense. But, I doubt Mingo is ready at all for the start of the season, and I am not losing any sleep over his injury. Big key is obviously stopping the run on a consistent basis, but also developing a pass rusher opposite Kruger is key. The secondary could be top 5 if we can put other teams in 3rd and 5 or higher.
Other obvious key is the offense staying on the field and winning the time of possession. Looking for the defense to take a huge step forward this year.

That is the only thing I thought was interesting. That he has come pretty far already.

Excited to see NFL Network covering the Browns tomorrow.

Johnny to get first team reps at the scrimmage?

Yes, but the proper context should be taken in this situation.

Pettine basically said McCown isn't going to play a whole lot in the scrimmage, but the rest of the starters would see more time. Being the next man on the depth chart, Manziel will get those snaps.

This is such an under statement. If Shelton lives up to his potential and sees 70% of the snaps, this could transform our defense. 1 shut down ng is a difference make for a 3-4 defense. Our LB's will look above average and our secondary could truly shine.

It really starts at the D-line in a 3-4 for sure. I couldn't have been more ecstatic with our 1st pick this year and i feel he will more than live up to he hype.

Is Phil Taylor still alive? Haven't heard anything about him in training camp. Him having a good season coupled with Shelton and the rest of the DL depth, talk about a potential huge turnaround in the run game.
