2015 Cleveland Browns Training Camp Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I understand that we have a not enviable QB situation and hence see the discussion - But i am more worried that we seem to have regressed in almost all offensive roles based on the eye test.

Our RB seem unimpressive, Our WR's are getting shorter every year (Stop washing them) and our TE spot which was our supposed strength with JC last year is also a weakness. As far as O-Line goes I am am not seeing the quality that we saw the last year.

-Duke Johnson will end up being our best RB this year and we have yet to see him. Not to mention, our starters played all of one series in game 1 and about a quarter and a half of game 2.

-Cameron couldn't stay healthy. Barnidge is solid, but again, I think Bibbs will end up being our most talented at the position, and we have yet to see him much.

-Our biggest WR (Pryor) has been out. Just because some WR are small, doesn't mean they don't have talent. We'll be running a lot of quick passes, slants, outs, etc, so their quickness and ability to break tackles will be huge for us.

-You're not seeing the quality because Mack is coming back from a major injury and, going into game 2, Thomas hadn't played in game situations with the normal OL yet. Once Mack settles in, they'll be fine.

I think McCown is pretty much garbage, but I still think he's probably the best QB we have on the roster.

On how his job changes during training camp and preseason, knowing he’ll miss the first four regular season games:
“I don’t really think it does. The reality is that I have a really good staff. The scouts are here now. I am very confident that they will be able to do the things necessary for those four weeks that I am gone. Beyond that, I believe that you have to prepare the same way. You have to understand who you are. The goal right now is to find out who the Browns are and to keep the best 53 players that we have. In between now and then, it will be the same process. Go through, figure out who is available, who may be on the street and who may get cut. If there is an opportunity to trade or swap guys at the end, you can do those sorts of things, or you can claim a guy at the 75 cut. There will be roster movement. There always is. I don’t think I’ve ever been a member of a team where we didn’t have it. A lot of those decisions are made earlier than most people think. You are just waiting for the ball to drop.”

The WR's have to be massive thing is getting old. The best receiver in professional football is 5'10 186.

TP better get back and do something or he isnt going to make the team.

It was indeed a problem last year, and Shanahan changed to an archaic deep throwing offense because of it. A standard West Coast offense with quick slants need a little size. The front office went out and signed Bowe and Hartline because of it. Will a smaller shiftier receiver succeed in deeper routes and inside crossing routes? Sure.

Certain body types are going to succeed in certain routes at the NFL level, not really a debatable point.

Anotonio Brown is good, not sure he is the best.

Megatron, Julio Jones, Bryant, are all probably better weapons in my opinion.

There are some good small receivers like Brown and Odell, but size completely changes the dynamic of coverage. There are several things that make a receiver great and size does matter,

Also remember that Brown is Rothlisberger's favorite target by far and targeted him over 100 times more than the next receiver. He is good, but stats are a bit inflated, 2nd most targets last year in the nfl.

I don't mind keeping 2 or 3 small quick receiver's, but you need some big ones with size too. Pryor has size, speed and hands. He is learning the other parts of playing receiver like route running and coming off the line. I would like to see what he can do in the final 2 preseason games because his size and speed can be a difference maker if he truly learns the position.

I think the received core showing an inability to react or come back when the qb has to scramble and lackluster route running. helps TP's cause

I also think Mccown is a solid upgrade from Hoyer. I dont really mind MCCown gambling in the preseason that what it is for and I agree with Pettine that the end of the 1st quarter was too early to take him out.

We are seeing pieces of the offense right now.

Yes the running backs are struggling but they have more on their plate this season as they are receivers way more often now in a game than they were for the whole season last year.

hopefully by preseason game 4 we see more of a 3 back attack and less of an RB carousel

Would have been better off letting Manziel prove his worth with Lewis/Shaw backing him up than gobbling up a career journeyman......yea McCown is solid according to one poster....a solid piece of poo.

Unsurprisingly terrible take.

Strong message to send to your team.

"Hey guys, our QB is currently in rehab and all we've seen from him is terrible, but we're gonna punt this year and see what he's got. No need to bring in anyone else."

Havin at least one tall wide receiver opens up the passing game as it has the potential to vcreate mismatches as opposing teams adjust coverage to reflect for route you give a taller receiver that dont work for smaller ones.

a 6'4 guy who can get to the ball and have the ability to break a run every time he touches the ball is gonna draw attention and that opens up field for guys like Benjamin and hawkins.
