2015 Cleveland Browns Training Camp Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't think McCown is going to do better than Hoyer. And that's not because I love Hoyer more necessarily. I fear Keys is right about DeFillippo.

Given it was just preseason I was not impressed at all with him. His offensive system looked as dynamic as a wet fart.

One thing you got right is that people have two choices:

1. To start rationalizing why Hoyer's numbers are going to run circles around McCown's week by week...

Or...

2. To start entertaining the idea building around Hoyer for a few years wouldn't have been a bad idea, especially since the Manziel and Erving picks could be a damn good receiving corp right now.

I would have been okay bringing back Hoyer. I didn't think he played well down the stretch, but that wasn't exactly all his fault either.

Given they went with McCown, didn't draft a QB, and seem somewhat still married to this Johnny Football idea. I would have been more than fine bringing back Hoyer as the temporary guy until we find something more ideal.

I don't have any serious hopes McCown will do anything substantial here. This is Jake Delhomme/Trent Dilfer all over again.

If the Browns bring in Davis, I would honestly give him the starting nob. That's how low my expectations are for the position this season.

Tim Tebow looked better than Matt Barkley. Let that sink in how poopy he's looked.

Matt Barkley was traded for a conditional pick while Tim Tebow was cut and has not found a team yet. I know this is not a ringing testament for Barkley and I am not advocating that the Browns take him but I am truly intrigued by the Browns QB situation - Is Johnny Manziel and the now cut Thad Lewis so much better that - Matt Barkley and more recently Christian Ponder, Matt Flynn and Matt Cassel ?

Matt Barkley doesn't look good at all.

The Browns have been linked to Austin Davis. He'd be an interesting pickup compared to the alternative.

Is a marginal upgrade at best without being already established in Flip's system worth it?

No probably not.

Sounds like they're gonna sign Austin Davis as the emergency QB

How about a ride on the Matt Cassel train!?

And in Cleveland, the emergency QB is the future starter. :chuckle:

If they can stay healthy, I really like this defensive depth chart.

I'm also really interested to see if Gilbert can get in on some kick returns.

Would love to see Gilbert take over kickoffs for two reasons
1) Give him something useful to contribute to the team until he starts playing like a capable cornerback
2) Free up a roster spot on what I feel is a wasted one with Marlon Moore

Also, the offensive depth chart was released too, and Dwayne Bowe is listed as 3rd string lol

I think the Browns will end up putting both Gilbert and Moore back to return kicks. Moore provides much more than just kick returner because he is a gunner on punt and kickoff coverage as well. Gilbert can certainly return kicks while also focusing on the mental part of the cornerback position, I agree with you there... unless they are using his kick return talents as a "carrot on a stick" for him to improve as a corner. You start doing X and Y as a defender, we put you back to return kicks... something like that.
