How excited should the casual baseball fan be about Zimmer? Is he in the same ballpark as the Cubs rookie? is this someone that you can build our lineup around for years as a third or cleanup hitter? What are the odds he's starting with the Indians next April?
No. If he pans, Zimmer is going to be another Kipnis- does a lot well, nothing 'great'. Probably better defensively than Kipnis, then again he will be playing the position Jason probably should be (CF or RF). I still like the Paul O'Neill comps- although more of the Cincy Era O'Neill than the Yankees/Steroid Era 30- something Oneill. Just because it is unfair to expect that kind of production in this era of shifts, protracters and advanced maths benefiting pitchers far more then hitters. As for longevity, who knows? I think the Tribe eight years ago imagined the lineup would still be built around Sizemore right now. Things change. How excited should the casual baseball fan be about Zimmer? That being said does Zimmer have the biggest upside in our system?
Seems like a pretty fair comp. When I think of Pence, I think of that goofy ass swing; haven't seen enough Zimmer ABs to know what his looks like. I think Zimmer will steal more bases early on, though. He is showing a Kipnis-esque knack for knowing when to steal already.Zimmer still reminds me of Hunter Pence.

I'm ready for some more kids! Look what Frankie and Gio are doing for us. Makes losing fun and winning more fun.
Yes their respective 57 and 75 OPS+ have been a boondoggle for the offense that you love.I'm ready for some more kids! Look what Frankie and Gio are doing for us. Makes losing fun and winning more fun.
