2015 NBA Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The drafts are going to be important for us in the next couple years. We're going to be way over the cap, so it'll be basically the only way to add new guys (specifically youth that can help extend this franchise's title window). Though we've only seen a little of him, I really liked the Joe Harris pick and I'm hoping we can find some sleepers this year. I actually like who DraftExpress projects is taking with both picks: Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Andrew Harrison. I would consider that a good draft.

MLEs, BAEs, trades...but really, the way San Antonio extended their run was finding Leonard...we're going to have to find our Leonard eventually.

Yep. Even though I'm a strong supporter of the Love trade, we really didn't have to include that Miami pick. It would've been nice to have because we would've had a good chance of adding a high potential player with it.

So who did you guys like based on what we've seen in this tournament? I really think we should take a look at Tyus Jones and Rondae-Hollis Jefferson.

Definitely the main positions we need next season. A backup PG, and a backup wing for Lebron.

I really like the potential of RHJ, as I believe we can get a good backup PG around the league

It's not as if Kyrie has been an iron man throughout his career. If a high caliber backup pg chance presents itself via the draft, the cavs should pounce on it.

If Kaminisky falls toward the end of the draft, I think the Cavs should draft him as a potential backup/project big.

He won't even make it out of the lottery, let alone to the end of the 1st.

I hope they take one of: Hollis-Jefferson, Anderson, Woods, Upshaw, Hunter, LaVert, or Vaughn. A wing or a big you can develop at C

Yep, I hope we don't try to take a low potential NBA-ready guy with our first rounder. Our roster is good right now and we should be taking a high potential guy that we can develop, so that once Lebron gets older, he can come in and extend the life of what we've got going on right now (like the Spurs with Kawhi Leonard).

I'm kinda turned off on Dakari due to his rebounding. I think he might return to Kentucky actually due to how poor he played in the tournament and his stock wasn't ever that high either.

1. I think they are looking for a point guard with the ability and quickness to penetrate and defend multiple positions. Basically, they see the need for a guard to be what Dion was supposed to be for the second unit. I wouldn't be surprised to see them use the pick and the Haywood contract to get this player in a trade. If not, I like Cameron Payne, Delon Wright, and Caris LeVert.

2. I would still be interested in the team developing a true center prospect with a high ceiling. Varejao will be working his way back to speed, and a relatively cheap "project center" behind Varejao can eat up minutes when someone is banged up and provide a replacement for Varejao down the line. Dakari Johnson has the body but isn't polished. I wonder if he will stay at Kentucky and get bigger minutes with so many big men moving on this year. If he is still around in the late first, he is a project who might help out behind Mozgov. I'd also like the Cavaliers to try and strike a handshake deal with either the center from UConn or the 7'4 freak from UC Davis. Those guys might be lottery bound someday, but aren't expected to go higher than the Cavaliers pick if they declared this year.

Most mocks I have seen have him in the mid to first round. I don't think he is a lottery pick.

The only mock sites I view as trustworthy, DraftExpress and Chad Ford from ESPN, have him as a lotto pick (10th and 14th). And there are bound to be a few highly rated underclassmen who go back to school like most years. Size with those kind of skills offensively does not fall in the draft, ask Kelly Olynyk.

I was perusing the list of potential free agent PGs, and the only name that held any appeal to me that was actually realistic for the role and money the Cavs could offer was Mo Williams.

I don't think you should ever draft for need, and good teams certainly shouldn't draft a player with the expectation he will be in the rotation his rookie year, but that said if the Cavs can't find a suitable veteran backup PG, or even someone to play third string, drafting a PG makes some sense. Cameron Payne has been moving up draft boards, and has been linked to the Cavs (well, David Griffin was seen at one of his games anyway), and Delon Wright is a favorite of the metrics crowd.

Keys is right , they do need to upgrade the backup PG spot, and I'd like to see a taller lengthy one who does have a jumper but is more of a defensive presence.

I like Moz, and he doesn't have a lot of wear and tear on him so getting a backup center to develop is a critical thing to look for.

Getting another wing player who is not only athletic but can actually defend, score and take over a game will not be easy to find but they do come along at times.

Sure, and if he swings and misses with his projections, he can always go back and correct them later anyway.
