I'm sure there are guys that liked that they knew would be there when they picked. Just because a big name goes away doesn't mean that's the guy they want.

They can't, because the trade can only be official in 30 days.

Scouting doesn't end with the draft... Years down the road, if a player is available in FA or through a trade, having this repository of information to help make the decision could be huge.
