2015 RCF NFL Mock Draft Rounds 1 and 2 - Patriots

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Sorry guys and thanks for the pick @Randolphkeys

White was my obvious choice. I didn't expect this to start so quickly and can't check the computer from 8-5...probably shouldn't have participated but figured I'd be able to make my pick. Oh well. Go Raiders. Actually making progress toward building a real team with Carr + White + Mack and a defense. Wish the Browns could do the same.

Well, im on my phone and cant do a write up, but I will select Dante Fowler Jr. I will post what I have when I get to a computer tonight.

For the Jets, they get a maybe not the best pass rusher but definitely the best all around OLB in the draft and an aggressive leader.

The BROWNS select their QB of the future

@ajz20
Could you have possibly fucked this up worse than you did? 1st - you took the Browns, which would have been the most popular team in the draft. Then you trade up - nice move, justified. And then you post a damn PICTURE of the pick and that is it?!? I bet you leave the toilet seat up. You probably don't put it down when you shit either.

The best part about your effort is that at least you traded 2 picks for 1, so we don't have to have 2 wasted draft spots. GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER.

On vacation, not even online for more than 10 minutes a day. Plus there was no advance notice we were starting on a certain day. SOME OF US HAVE LIVES beyond a mock draft on a forum!!!! We have families, and other stuff to do. Get a grip on reality my friend.

Hey guys, let's keep this civil. I think the first post was a joke, but still.

If you can't attend to the mock, just let me know and I'll get a filler. We all have lives; nobody is able to attend to this all day. I only ask that if you signed up, please try to check back as frequently as you can.

With the 7th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft the Chicago Bears select

Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama

Scouting Report
  • Amazing route-runner. Uses precise footwork and cuts to break-free of defenders.
  • Ran full route-tree at Alabama. Best routes are slants, out-routes and post-routes.
  • Lacks overall “wow” factor of elite wide receivers, but is a complete package player.
  • Excellent at short- and intermediate-routes. Doesn’t have top end speed to break free on deep balls.
  • Typically excels at attacking the football with outstretched hands and good technique.
  • Horrible run blocker. Bad technique leading with his shoulder and watching the backfield. Usually is willing to put effort into the run blocking when he is play side, but doesn’t put distinct effort drop off after the ball is away from him. Bad for cutback runningbacks.
  • Not a reliable endzone target. Can run zig routes or out-routes to get open, but Cooper needs to turn his body more to box out defenders on fade routes.
  • Good vision in gaining yards-after-catch. Excellent for west coast offenses.

The Bears turn down offers to move down to select the most pro-ready receiver on the board in Amari Cooper. He'll team up with Alshon Jeffrey to immediately form one of the league's most dynamic pairs of young receivers, giving Jay Cutler another weapon to work with in the passing game along with Eddie Royal and the Black Unicorn. A nagging hamstring injury limited Jeffrey's deep ball prowess last year, but when healthy his ability to stretch the field will make guarding Cooper one-on-one nearly impossible.

The 2014 Biletnikoff award re-wrote the Alabama record books in his three seasons on campus: Most receptions, receiving yards, and receiving TDs by a freshman (59-1,000-11) --- single-season records for receptions, yards, and TDs (124-1,727-16) --- career leader for receptions, yards, and TDs (228-3463-31).

The Atlanta Falcons and @jlegg21 are on the clock.

I could have had Cooper if I wanted him. Had a pretty fair deal with Jets lined up, but decided it would be more fun to see who falls. In real life, if Chiefs can set up a good trade to move up and get Cooper, I hope they do it.

Edit: never mind, player I was targeting has been selected

Analysis
Strengths
Explosive athlete in every sense. Has elite power for his size and explodes off the line like a coiled spring. Rushes passer with extreme passion and purpose. Has fast, violent hands with advanced understanding of how to use them. Tough and plays with bad intentions on each snap. Uses rip to get under linemen and out-leverage them. Played 4-3 defensive right end in base but rushed from three-technique in some sub-packages. Once he gets to blocker's edge, they struggle to recover and redirect. Rare ability to post inside leg and get his body turned sharply and quickly around it toward quarterback. Excellent change-of-direction talent. Has natural coordination of head fakes, footwork and hand usage in pass rush. Works hard to stand his ground against power. Has power in upper body and hips to punch and dispatch with tight ends against run. Rarely runs past the arc as a rusher and will fight to come back underneath if he gets on the high side. Was able to drop into space with no issues when asked.
Weaknesses
Lacks ideal length as an outside rusher. At times was engulfed and glued to the bigger tackles he faced. Can get too focused on hand fighting if he doesn't win with hands early in pass rush. Will occasionally stunt himself out of a play, opening up running lane. If rushing from inside, must learn to set up teammates when running "T/E" (tackle first, end under) twists. Relies on arm-over inside and slap/rip outside -- needs more variety to pass rush.
Sources Tell Us
"He's not like other guys from Missouri that we've seen. He's got serious speed to get over the top of tackles and those other ends didn't have it. You just wish he was a little longer." -- NFC outside linebackers coach
NFL Comparison
Chris Clemons
Bottom Line
It's hard to find many play weaknesses for Ray, but his lack of overall length is one area that some teams have concerns about. He pursues the quarterback and the ball like it's his last snap. An alpha male packaged in an explosive frame, Ray has the traits and skills to be a dominant pass rusher and potential Pro Bowler. He also has the athleticism and strength to play in any defensive front.

Highlights...

And a little about the man himself...

The way I see it, the Giants ultimately need to focus on their line. I think Jerry Reese will be wise enough to realize that they're best served giving Eli Manning the best protection possible. Furthermore, Scherff projects as a good run blocker, which is a staple of a Tom Coughlin offense. The Giants hope that Scherff ultimately locks a tackle spot down for the next decade. Scherff's floor is a excellent guard (due to a case of t-rex arms). I considered Vic Beasley here strongly, but the Giants won't get anywhere without the O-Line holding up.
