2016 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Updated my roster primer.

Chris Johnson DFA'd to make room for Rajai Davis on the 40-man.

25-Man Roster Primer (as of 12/16):

Position Players
Locks:

IF - 1B Mike Napoli, 1B Carlos Santana, 1B/3B/OF Chris Johnson, 2B Jason Kipnis, SS, Francisco Lindor, 3B Giovanny Urshela, UTIL Jose Ramirez

:chuckle::chuckle:

Really surprised they cut Johnson though. I wonder who is going to replace him on the 25 man. Maybe that locks a guy like Butler in.

I think they might have something else lined up...plan was to see Johnson platoon with Lonnie a bit I thought, while moving him around 1B and 3B every so often...shocking move, especially if they have to eat all of that money...either that or they must really like Butler, Grossman, Cowgill, or a rookie...

Also, I am looking through DFA rules...if a guy with 5+ years of experience is DFA'd with years left on his deal and elects to become a free agent immediately, instead of going through waivers and refusing assignment, that money gets completely wiped off the books...am I reading this right?

If so, please become a free agent right away, Chris...

I believe it's as follows:

If he refuses the assignment and goes to FA, his contract is terminated and the Indians are off the hook.

If he refuses the assignment and does not elect FA, the Indians have to either keep him on the 40 man, trade him, or release him.

If he accepts the assignment, the Indians are on the hook for all of it.

Correct. I can't imagine why he'd not accept the outright assignment though.

Leaving $18.5M on the table isn't something you want to go home and tell the wife. Or the players union, for that matter.

Oh he accepts. You always accept.

I'm a little more accepting of the Davis deal now.

Tribe inked Tom Gorzelanny to a minor league deal with Spring invite.

Another LOOGY in the hopper.

This guy better never face a RH due to his .455 OBP.

I can live with the .220 average to lefties
