2016 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

I wonder what the Browns could get in return from the Eagles along with #8. That's a pretty good jump back in pick value and Philly doesn't have a 2nd rounder this year. Future 1st is a possibility, but is there any chance we could get a guy like Jordan Matthews in a trade back?

Do you think that maybe the Browns think they can get positions like interior linemen or safety later in the draft with the comp picks they are going to receive? I remember reading an old Bill Barnwell Grantland article that talked about how Ozzie Newsome always preferred to take safety's later in the draft because he felt the position was undervalued and good players could be found late. I have a feeling this is maybe how the Browns FO feels?

All I really know about the front office's thoughts right now is that the new group thinks very little of the players Ray Farmer added. That includes the draft picks as well as the veterans signed in free agency. What do I think? Safeties are a very undervalued position and rarely drafted high, mostly because backup safeties are a dime a dozen but impact safeties will get your team into the playoffs. I feel pretty good about the cornerbacks on the roster, but I know a little too much about Gilbert. I feel about the same way about him as I felt about Flash Gordon. They are lucky Desir looks like he was a hit.

I agree with you on the trade down, there are a lot of holes on this roster. I think it will either be QB or trade down and I think it is going to depend upon how much someone will pay to move up. I am sure the Browns are asking for a ransom for #2 and if they don't get it, maybe they sit still and use the picks in the 2nd and 3rd round to move back, especially since many scouts believe there isn't much of a discrepancy in the talent level of the players projected to go in those rounds.

This year, like last year at this time, seems like there isn't enough draft picks in the world to fill all the holes. I'd like to see the team get some quality pieces in place with the understanding it won't all come together in 2016. How they do that is up to them... but drafting as poorly as they have the past few seasons isn't the way to do it.

I don't think these guys are going to take Tunsil or Ramsey at 2 either. If they believe good safeties can be found later in the draft, it goes with the same line of thinking of taking a RB early, the position is devalued and good players can be found later.

If the player is truly an impact player, there is no "too high." This is the line of thinking that never got me my starting-level skill players, forcing me to believe another average edge rush prospect and questionable QB prospect will turn the franchise around. Just draft the best players, don't overthink it.

I <3 Jordan Matthews but I still want Goff at 2.

This team will be lucky to win three games. They will be back at #1 or #2 again next year so they certainly don't have to try to do it all in 2016. Pick a cornerstone at #2 and best available after that unconditionally. Drafting Goff or Wentz doesn't justify reaching on offensive players; particularly WRs.

Take Goff in 2016. Get him on the field for 2 games max. Suck it up for 2-3 wins.

Draft Fournette in 2017

Just when I'm bottoming out... I read about this guy. He only dropped three total passes last year.

TU's Keyarris Garrett is the most overlooked receiver in the NFL Draft, and he doesn't know why

Keyarris Garrett is a 6'3, 220-pound wide receiver with 4.53 speed who racked up 1,588 receiving yards in his senior year at Tulsa. However, he figures the best-case scenario is that the phone rings on the second day of the 2016 NFL Draft, and in fact he'll likely have to wait until Day 3.

Why does the nation's leading college receiver in 2015 not have the hype that players at the top of the draft class have? He really can't figure it out.

"I felt like that during the season too," Garrett said. "When they announced the Biletnikoff Award and I wasn't even on that, I felt like I was being overlooked, which I can't really understand. I understand that we're a small school, but if you look at my best games, that was against top competition. So that's why I didn't really understand why I was being overlooked."

"At first, when I was hearing about things, they said it was my speed, but I think at the Combine I basically showed that I can run and I can run with the best of them, especially for how tall I am. With my height and weight, I ran really fast ... so I don't know what else they could say I need to improve on."

If you want a Dez Bryant comp athletically in this draft it is Garrett not Michael Thomas.

I'm seeing quite a few mocks where Doctson drops to the 2nd.

Any chance that legitimately happens?

I honestly have no problem with either strategy.

Though, I can understand the logic if Hue really likes Kevin Hogan. He basically possesses similar traits to AJ McCarron. I know the Browns flew Hogan in last week for a workout. I assume it went really well. Big time leader, mechanics can be cleaned up, etc. I think Pep Hamilton was Hogan's recruiter at Stanford....

I don't think Zeirlein was insinuating the Browns would take Hogan in the 1st. I think he meant that Hogan is a target if the Browns trade down and fill other needs in the draft before taking a QB.

Trade down and taking Hogan in the 4th is probably the route I would take if I was filling out a mock draft today.

Personally, with RG3 at QB, I think the Browns biggest need for next season is at 5-tech-- target Buckner or Rankins or maybe Butler or Jones depending on how far down you want to trade down.

I'm sorry, but this would be flat out terrible.

Hogan is borderline undraftable given his horrendous throwing motion and what can only be described as a questionable physical skill-set.

I don't care about how much of a "leader" he is. You can only clean up those mechanics so much and the lack of physical skills makes him limited to begin with.

It's not even a thought process I can entertain.

I could survive a scenario where they pass on Goff for Lynch at 32 or Driskel at 64 depending on the caliber of player they're taking at 2/32.

I cannot stomach Kevin Hogan being taken as anything other than a clipboard holder behind Goff, similar to how Washington took Cousins.

I am curious, if the Browns traded down, what is your ideal scenario and/or who would you take if they landed somewhere between #8 and #15 (Eagles and Rams both lusting for QBs)?

There is a reasonable case for a number of the great DL prospects in this range.

But I'd be looking for Darron Lee, who I think is going to be an incredible pro.

IMO, this draft is more top heavy than it is deep. In a perfect world, I'm moving down to 4-5-6 and taking Goff, Wentz, Jack or Ramsey.

I'd prefer not to move down to the range you laid out.

Garrett is so inferior to Dez physically.

Neither of them are a great comp to Dez, but I really don't get your hate on Thomas.

Neither am I. But, I was just curious on the possibility. With the chance to finally draft a foundational core player, it is foolish to pass on that for a moderate return.

Teams like the Patriots can afford to trade down because they already have their core talent. One doesn't build a core by not drafting those first couple elite players in drafts where one has top-five picks.

Do you mind sharing your top 10?

1. Jack
2. Tunsil
3. Ramsey
4. Buckner
5. Elliott
6. Bosa
7. Stanley
8. Lee
9. Hargreaves
10. Rankins

If you want to sneak Goff/Wentz in at 10-- I could buy it-- I've been following Rankins for 2 years now so I'm more comfortable with him. Regardless, I see both QB's in a tier below those top 9 or 10 guys.... but those top 9 or 10 guys are truly elite prospects for their respective positions. That's the dilemma with this #2 pick-- truly elite NFL talent or best QB in the draft.

Not in my opinion.

And b00b loves D Lee??! WHAT A HOMER! :chuckle:

No but really, he's gonna have a great career. He will hold his own in the pros.
