In the valley, they would be called investors or founders and together with the players and fanbase, other teams in the league and Media, "Stakeholders'

NBA is a players league and Silver is a players commissioner. Really the anti-Goodell.

While I admit, the term owner is not offensive to me, I do understand the negative connotation to the term for African-Americans. This is one of those decicions that won't affect your daily life, or your life ever, and if you are offended or triggered it likely means it's you with the problem.

I'm not African-American but it does affect me. When you teach people to be wildly oversensitive to small details of the language and to see oppression everywhere they look it ends up affecting everyone in the society. I'm Jewish, if people in my community started a campaign to stop everyone from using the word "camp" because it reminded them of the Holocaust that would be a bad thing and it would affect more than Jews.

If the NBA wants to help the African-American community they can take on mass incarceration and poverty, stuff that really matters and is hard to do. They can also take on the NCAA exploitation of black athletes, something that is a little closer to actual slavery than someone being referred to as the owner of a team.

P.S. with that said people have raised some good points about sports league owners not exactly being full owners -- the league is a collective enterprise and the owners agree to give up all kinds of rights that would otherwise accrue to an owner. Maybe it is true that they are better referred to as investors or stakeholders, maybe that would better reflect the economic structure of the league too. So maybe I'm changing my mind a bit...see, even white males can grow!

LOL, hey good job on changing your mind mid response. But really, it's an NBA workplace issue. If Silver had kept this as an internal memo and not announced it, we would never know and it wouldn't affect your life. It seems the boss has listened to his employees and is trying to foster a good culture for them.

Definitely a bit of self grandiose marketing from Silver but I'll give him a pass. Anyways, Dan Gilbert, majority shareholder of the Cleveland Cavaliers. OK, that is good by me.

are the celtics a good team even with Kemba, if Hayward doesn't get back to form? They would lose Rozier signing Kemba, their front court kind of sucks, I don't see Kemba, Tatum, or Brown being or becoming the kind of superstar who can lead a team to the Finals. If you add a superstar to Kemba/Tatum/Brown they are good, but those three on their own, nope.

Honestly Kemba probably brings out the best in Tatum & Brown (see 2018). Not sure if its enough, but certainly better.

Can’t believe the Hornets lowballed Kemba. They’re not gonna magically attract better talent.

Lakers just traded the rest of their roster minus Kuzma to the Wiz and AD waived something so they now can sign a max player. Kawhi has included them as a team he will visit. Sooooo, if they dont get Kawhi, which i hope to god they dont, who is the max guy? Has to be either Butler or Kyrie. Tony Kornheiser just said 3 or 4 times, this is great for the league, great for the league, great for the league. Boy i dont know who outside of Laker fans or Lebron followers could like this. Who in the hell wants to see Lebron, Kawhi, and AD on the same team? That would honestly trump all superteams. Thats probably the top 3 players in the league on the same team. Lebron is just never gonna stop superteaming. I guess its all he knows. With those 3 on the same team you could just add a bunch of G-leaguers.

There's only one ball. All those guys, sans LeBron, have extensive injury time missed and LeBron is getting older. I hope they do sign all three. I want to see it blow up. I also want to see who would want to sign up to be a min. player on that team. Why would you want to be around 3 players who make nearly 15x more than you if you're also a professional (worth more than being a bench player)? They'll still need at least 8 of those. I see this as being the end of the super teams (with this current league salary structure), if Kawahi to the Lakers happens.

They aren't even owners. They are franchisees. If you buy a MacDonald's, you don't own MacDonald's. It's not even an accurate term. Being accurate is important.

If they were owners, Donald Sterling would still be an owner. Which commissioner is ahead of your boss who owns/built his business?

You make good points.

How is that great for the league?

That is GSW II.

We just had our first competitive Finals in 3 years, bc Durant got hurt, and now you are creating another team that will sweep whomever they play in The Finals. It’s boring and stupid.

Rumors are more like they'll get Russell back and then use some of the leftover cap to get another vet. Then they'll still have vet exemption to add another body so they're aiming to have 6 strong vets and then 2-3 on min contracts
