Spurs got fleeced on this deal. They didn't get OG or Siakam and the 1st they got is protected from 1-20 next year, and turns into 2 2nd's if it falls within the protection. Plus Demar, while a good player, isn't a 30 million a year caliber player. I guess the market was gutted for Kawhi, but still, this is like a treadmill type move.

The one thing I'm concerned about for Toronto is if Kawhi isn't actually healthy. Between Boston, Philly and Toronto, 100% I'd prefer Toronto gets out of the East. The fans here suck, but I think that's how life is for every fan of a team outside of the city you live in. Meanwhile, Celtics, Warriors and Lakers fans suck everywhere, and all the time.

The Spurs did what they thought was best and I disagree they got fleeced.
They probably knew what they were and weren't going to get.
I would be interested why they didn't deal with Boston instead of Toronto.
They are done with KL and they were going to ship him where he will only face them twice a year..
DeFozen ..well I have a hunch this is really going to hurt his ego ,which I wonder how strong it really is.

I actually think it's good for both sides. Toronto needs to make one last push while Lowry is still good, this was their opportunity to do so.

For the Spurs, I bet they could have done a deal to setup their future but this is the opportunity to keep winning. At the age Pop is and most view him as the reason why they win, they need to try to win while he is still coaching. No reason to load up for another coach, who most likely will never be close to the coach Pop is.

DeRozan just seems like a bad fit for any team, no matter how good he actually is. The Spurs like to play fast. DeRozan has been thought of as an ISO guy. That is not the Spurs. However, Aldridge is also kind of an ISO guy. It is going to be very interesting to see how they play and how they score with still not much 3pt shooting.

Looking forward to this. And hoping DeRozan reaches a new level with Pop.

This is a precursor of Leonard heading to LA if not next season maybe by the trade deadline. Their is talk he may not show up for his physical.

I think Kwahi has to still prove he is healthy. No one is giving him a 4 year max contract if he can't prove that he can stay healthy for the whole season. Attitude/character issues will start to come into play if Kwahi pushes the issue even more.

He asked for a trade from the Spurs, he now has to suck it up and play for the raptors for the year.

Doesn’t Leonard have to play next season? If he decides to throw a tantrum and sit out he would not be a free agent at the end of next season. He could always nurse an “injury “ but that would probably lower his value quite a bit. He doesn’t really have a choice

it's a step down not a treadmill. Derozan isn't close to peak Kawhi. They might have been able to get better from the Lakers. Guess they put a high premium on not trading with a conference rival.

at least Demar is good, they did get at least one guaranteed good player in return.

1. The pick is heavily protected, turns into two 2nd rounders if not used next year.
2. Poeltl has a nice defensive ceiling, not much of an offensive threat.
3. DeRozan has only 2 years left on his contract and he will be 31 by the time it expires, and he'll definitely want another, bigger max contract.

It really is a good deal for the Raptors, even if it's just for a 1-year rental. They'll be perfectly positioned to tank, and will be able to flip Lowry/Kawhi/Valanciunas/Ibaka at the trade deadline if this experiment doesn't work out. The Lowry/DeRozan Raptors have peaked and Masai Ujiri is going for the fences here before blowing it all up.

I think the Spurs got the best player they could for Kwahi. Not the best prospect but the best player right now. I figure Pop will coach another 1-3 years and Demar fits into that window. They don't want Pop to go into a rebuild in his last years. I think if this materalized earlier they might have been able to keep Tony Parker.

Murray-DeRozan-Rudy Gay-Lamarus Adridge-Pau Gasol isn't a bad starting lineup. They could be the 3 or 4 seed in the west and could knock out the Lakers in the first round in 6 or 7 games.

A year of Kawhi - if he deigns to step on the court - has limited value, unfortunately.

Gotta love pop for this, says "oh, you don't wanna play here? Oh you wanna play for the Lakers? Well have fun playing in fucking Canada." Like not only did he trade him out of the conference he traded him out of the fucking country lmao.
That being said the raptors are kinda cold now. Once again just like with the boogie deal I'm kinda glad lebrons gone so we don't have to care about this.

If I was Kawhi, I would give it my all, show I am back in good health and push the Raptors over the top into the Finals.................then after Klay wins another title in 2019, join him in LA..........with the Clippers laughing in Lebron's face.
