2018 Spring Training Thread

Not been following attention. Can someone please summarize the major news that came from camp this year. How close is the young catcher from breaking through?

Mejia will start the year in AAA. I think he's close to being ready, but finding him a spot to play is the difficult part since the Indians already have 2 great defensive catchers that have good rapport with the staff. I believe they're going to try to get him some reps in the outfield and seems like they're moving him away from 3B.

Other news:

-Brantley will start the season on the DL. I think he could've started the year in LF but the Indians are playing it slow and smart. Don't think he'll be out very long. Naquin will take his spot in the meantime

-No decision yet on Guyer, I'd imagine he starts on the DL as well. Refsnyder will probably have his spot in the meantime.

-Indians have avoided making 2 of their toughest decisions: Urshela vs. Erik Gonzalez and what to do with Merritt. Gio got hurt and Merritt is "hurt" so both will start the year on the DL

-Clevinger will start the year as the #4 starter. Salazar is still slow coming back, probably the furthest out of our DL guys. Not sure how he'll be used.

-Rajai and Belisle both made the roster

-Kipnis and Alonso have flashed a lot of power in Arizona

Well, Cookie hasn't looked very crisp these last two outings. Hopefully, a couple more starts and he locks it in better. I understand it is only Spring training but he doesn't look in control of many pitches right now. Getting strike outs at least.
