2019 Cleveland Indians Opening Day Roster

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Because Spring Training sample sizes don’t always dictate regular season plans.

I still say it would be a mistake not to give him everyday at bats. He looks poised to have a breakout year and I feel he deserves the chance out of spring to be the everyday guy.

Alex Wilson, Flaherty, AJ Cole and Grimm all will not be on the opening day roster.

Though Stamets did leave tonights game, but it seems like they are going with Moroff and Stamets to start the season if Lindor isnt healthy. (If stamets is out anytime Flaherty could still be added). Though it seems like Lindor won't miss very many games.

Edit: nvm Flaherty opted to be a free agent, so it’s Stamets and Moroff if Lindor isn’t ready to start the season!

My Guess 3.0

1. C, Roberto Perez
2. C, Plawecki
3. 3B, Jose Ramirez
4. SS, Lindor
5. UTIL, Moroff
6. 2B, Kipnis
7. 1B, Santana
8. DH, Hanley Ramirez
9. 1B/OF Bauers
10. OF, Thompson
11. OF, Luplow
12. OF, Naquin
13. OF, Martin
14. SP, Kluber
15. SP, Bauer
16. SP, Carrasco
17. SP, Clevinger
18. RP, Hand
19. RP, Oliver Perez
20. RP, Cimber
21. RP, Edwards
22. RP, Otero
23. RP, Olson
24. RP, Neil Ramirez
25. RP, Nick Wittgren

  • CarGo to replace Naquin when/if club determines he is good to go
  • Thompson & Luplow on thin-ice with Greg Allen and Oscar Mercado lurking in AAA
  • I would guess Neil Ramirez and Wittgren likely on the chopping block for Shane Bieber's call up and when/if Tyler Clippard is healthy
  • I'm surprised on Alex Wilson not making the cut. Not a sexy reliever but solid results in 3 of the past 4 years

Oof. That lineup is brutal.

Why Naquin over Allen?

Just a guess, nothing would surprise me when it comes to the OF other than Martin being locked into center.

Wasn't attacking, exact opposite, you are not the only one to guess that...why, seems obvious to me Allen is the better hitter, runner and fielder, am I wrong?

Why Naquin over Allen?

My question as well especially since he has played the best of anyone this spring. Not sure how you keep Naquin who is still struggling a bit at the plate over a guy who is hitting better and considered a better fielder as well

Here's my best guess at an Opening Day lineup (vs RHP)

1. Greg Allen, LF
2. Jason Kipnis, 2B
3. Jose Ramirez, 3B
4. Carlos Santana, 1B
5. Carlos Gonzalez, RF
6. Hanley Ramirez, DH
7. Leonys Martin, CF
8. Max Moroff, SS
9. Kevin Plawecki, C

If Lindor is healthy, throw him leadoff and send Allen down to the #8 spot, or maybe #9 as a second leadoff. Moroff goes to the bench.

Against lefties, probably switch CarGo out for Luplow if I had to guess. I see Naquin as an odd man out right now, and I want Greg getting reliable at-bats.

EDIT: Forgot we have Bauers too. He has to play. Don't ask me, I'm not the manager.

Didn't take it as an attack at all. Really just a guess though. Allen is definitely the better runner, I think it's a relative push when it comes to corner OF defense, and they are somewhat similar from a pure hitting perspective. Allen has a much higher upside though, especially if he can walk at the rate he has shown in the minors.

If all goes well, CarGo will be the regular right fielder and take away major plate appearances from whoever is out there to start the season. Maybe give Naquin these first few weeks to prove if he can be anything before he is inevitably moved on from? If Naquin is bad out there, decent chance he gets DFA'd with the OF logjam and his inconsistencies. He was really good in 2016 and started of 2018 well, when everyone else was struggling, before getting hurt and never regaining back that form when he returned. Plus, his defensive metrics in RF were solid last year.

Anyone have any news on Zimmer? Reading he’s way ahead of schedule, and is opening on the 10 day DL.
He’s not a proven commodity, but I’d love to see him get reacclimated with an extra couple months- he’s be a defensive boost for sure.
Frankie starting on 10 day DL- he can take him time.
Kipnis? Whatever. Lol

There was an update the other day on Zimmer, he is participating in some workouts and whatnot, but he isn’t back to all baseball activities. My guess is around All-Star break? He would be a second half reinforcement like Salazar possibly as well.
