2019 NBA Draft Lottery

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Beiline will help sexton a lot.

I agree I think he will too. I just think the front office needs to prioritize ball handling if they are going to draft a guard or a wing. With the way the roster is built and the direction the NBA is trending, getting a low level ball handler or non-ball handler at either the SG or SF position will limit the upside of the roster.

I think we want a starter at #5 and drafting Hunter or even Culver is basically saying that one of Sexton, Cedi, or #5 will eventually have to be moved to the second unit. I think the question should be asked is does Sexton, Cedi, and whoever we draft at #5 equals enough ball handling and potential passing to be an effective team? Getting a good ball handler and passer at the PF and center spots are more rare. Counting on a PF/center to add the passing and/or ball handling just will making it that much harder to build an effective team.

I think sexton is goibg to further shock people this year. I thibk his handle will improve. Much to early to relegate him to the bench

I don't think he should, but I think it's highly possible that Cedi ends up on the bench. He was really inconsistent this last year and I could see the FO wanting more consistency in the starting lineup.

I much prefer Cedi to start, though.

I agree that it's too early to relegate him or Cedi to the bench. That's why I think it's important to try to find a fit at #5 because the talent gap isn't that large between #4 to probably #10 or #11. I'd rather find a 1a/1b type ball handler and playmaker to pair with Sexton than a low level second or third ball handler that will just ask too much of Sexton. I think Sexton can be player that splits primary ball handling duties but if he is ask to be sole primary ball handler with lesser ball handlers around him, it's setting him up to fail. It's just setting all the young guys up to fail really. The nba is trending to having 2 or 3 real good ball handlers and playmakers in a starting lineup.

I agree Sexton shouldn't preclude us from taking a PG but at #5 it should only be Ja Morant if he slips or Garland if the Cavs feel like the gap between him and whoever is left is fairly large.

The front office should highly value passing and ball handling at other positions so they don't diminish Sexton as a player. Having multiple ball handlers is also becoming increasingly valuable in the NBA. Alot of good teams have 3 ball handlers in the starting lineup that can create for themselves and others.

If Ja slips for some reason that just makes the Lakers pick really valuable because someone will trade up to 4 to take him unless the reason for it is medical in the MPJ sense.

Culver is the best fit other than RJ because he can pass and handle, but is also great cutting off the ball. Great fit in beilein's system. Also is a bit raw, so he should be able to help some right away and fit without drastically making the team better

I watch Culver highlights and I see these things but when I watched him in the tournament none of this stuff really stuck out that he could consistently do them.

His highlights show great handles but in the tournament he was consistently dribbling hunched over or trying to position his body to shield the ball, which effected how he saw the floor and his positioning to get a effective shot up.

The one problem with Culver is when people started talking about him here, I would check out Texas tech games to see for myself what people were seeing. The problem was he never really stuck out to me. I had to check what number he was online and really focus in on him. Usually guys that are suppose to be this talented just jump out and you just notice who they are.

Yeah everyone has their warts in this draft. I think this is one where we are either laughing or crying in 3 years.

I do think there is talent, I hope the cavs are good at identifying it. So far I am encouraged by Koby.

Koby and the rest of the scouting department probably have been locked in a dark room since the lotto breaking down tape of everyone.

I keep flipping on who I would want. I never though I could convince myself that Cam Reddish could even be close to the proper pick and now I'm getting close to that. Im still high on Hachimura and Coby White. I hope Koby and the scouts have found some random parents with tape of Garland.

Porter Jr has the body and is crazy talented, but people are saying he is JR Smith 2.0 and he is a black hole on offense. He is going to look amazing in workouts and someone will take him.

Agree on Reddish. I hated him at first, but then bought the miscast role on him.

He has some good assist highlights and he always played pg on his teams. Ball handling looks great at times, but he turned it over a lot. I dunno what to think about him. He has advanced footwork, but sucked all year.

I guess Porter could end up being a star, but he only started 4 games in the lone year at USC, the team went 9-12 in the games he played in, and he got suspended during the season for bad behavior. If the pick ends up being a total bust, no one can suggest that outcome was not predictable.

With Reddish, he almost has the shot selection that an modern NBA player should have. His spots and moves around the 3 point line needs to be focused (not expanded) and he needs to be encouraged to go inside more. It's a weird style for a prospect that is 6'8. When he does go inside, he does go to the rim which is encouraging.

I can see why teams think his game will translate better to the NBA. Beilein and the analytics people will just have to figure out his best spots from 3 and which moves actually get him the best percentage. It looks like he has watch too much of Curry, Harden, Klay, etc and wants to incorporate too much of all the best shooters game into his.

I agree but think it is a good thing. I am not a huge fan of his but can see the potential, has good basketball IQ can shot and has some athleticism. The thing about him is if he is coachable and willing to work. I think the FO and ownership saw what LJ brought off the court as far as a work ethic and drive to great. When he left the first time we did not have any other players with that drive, even Irving did not have it. The second time around I think the FO payed closer attention to what makes LJ great and how important it is to have guys with smart basketball IQ and the drive to be better. It’s part of the reason I loved that we kept Love and Frye. Need that type of mindset to mold these young players. I know most on here want to tank for another top pick but I really feel if we grab the right guy this year, we have the talent to make a run for the playoffs or atleast be a competitive team week in and week out. My biggest worry is we become the Kings, Suns, that get high draft pics, and don’t pair them with the right roster.
