Not really impressed...I don't think it's broken at all like Simmons is.
I think it's more I'm impressed that his form didnt look broken for a player with his skill set.

Baretts OBPM -4.1 DBPM -4.8 BPM -8.9 PER 29.8
Zions OBPM 12.6 DBPM 0.8 BPM 13.4 PER 55.1
Reddish OBPM 5.7 DBPM 1.1 BPM 6.8 PER 38.3
Marcus Ottey: 13.4 BPM (LeBron level)
RJ Barrett: -8.9 BPM
Just for context here, Ottey had 17 / 5 / 3 on 43% from the field with a 37% usage. 42.9% EFG and 50.4% TS. It's clear I don't understand the value of BPM calculation.
A 30 PER on 26 shots is the only thing that truly matters here to me. I'm not trying to cast aside efficiency in other roles but efficiency at volume is what separates the men from the boys. Lots of guys can be a #2 at the NBA level.....very few can be a #1.
I view any prospect through this prism. Reddish and Zion both played well but if we hit seasons' end and Barrett shoots 50% from the floor and 40+% from 3, while scoring 30 a game and showing the portfolio of NBA finishing moves.....yeah, that guy is getting picked #1.
If Zion can somehow score 28 a game on 14 shots, at seasons end, I'd pull a Goldhammer and eat shit.

I mean, he did have 6 assists. No, it's just that it's a ridiculous amount of shots for a player to take in college, let alone when he shares the ball with two ridiculous prospects. Could be a bad thing or a good thing...depends how you look at it.
Lol, it's just one game but every time a player has such negative BPM on such an explosive stat line on a team that completely trashed the other team, it causes me to raise an eyebrow you know? Why is it so negative? how could it be? why does his offensive impact made him lower his team's ortg by much? I mean he shot well, he dished out assists, so what is it? (Yes, I know it's 1 game sample, but he is an aberration amongst the other two prospects)
Why is PER important here? PER merely measures player's per minute efficiency by accounting for field goals, steals, blocks, TOs, free throws, ETC. So ofcourse he should rank high in this, even then he ranked behind the other two. I'm just asking why he had negative impact on his team's ORTG (DRTG doesn't matter to me right now).
PER favors volume... certainly if it's on above average efficiency.
Lol, it's so, so early, but there is nothing to talk about so we might as well start with the hot takes, even if there are only warm.
Yeah, my head honestly was spinning at his BPM number......like my jaw hit the floor after what my eyes saw.
BPM is a per 100 calculation isn't it? Maybe Barrett's usage just massively drug it down but it's super strange seeing someone like Ottey have a near 40 on a pedestrian stat line and post a god like BPM.
Just for context here, Ottey with the above stat line, posted an identical BPM to Zion (13.4). I don't understand that stat......or maybe it has absolutely no value in 1 game samples.
I think RJ, Zion, and Cam could all struggle to create off the dribble against NBA wings, for different reasons. What makes Zion different is that he may not have to create against NBA wings...he'll be playing PF, maybe even C. That's a huge advantage, and that's where his superstar upside is IMO.
Using the BPM #'s after a single game to compare players is absolutely pointless.
You're going to need a good 5, if not 10 game sample to have any realistic idea as to what the BPM #'s are accurately portraying.
I know it's kinda pointless, and yet still interesting.
Would you rather talk about the Cavs?!
Also, this is the first time I thought a college team could beat an NBA team. This Duke team would beat the shit out of the Cavs right?
