2023-2024 Off-Season Thread II

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If you are cashing in on one of our all Stars for a better fit, it's probably DM going out...

That's what you sign up for when your best offensive player is a combo guard - roster inflexibility. Kind of like how Mobley is a tough fit at the 4 without a 3pt shot, ideally you get a defensive tall shooting PG to pair with DM, like a healthy Lonzo type

I don’t think is time to trade anyone let’s see how this team does with more shooters first. With the new additions I have a feeling next year is going to be fun

The time to make a move would be around the deadline. I think the Cavs are done, no need to do anything, but sign guys to round out the roster.

Let me flesh out the Ariana Grande metaphor to detail: Teams can absolutely win with a true point guard under 6'3 and a true center who defends the paint in today's NBA. Some teams are going towards switching everything. One of them was the Pistons, who went 17-65 with a plus size point guard and no true center.

So obsessing on something an All Star point guard can't do because of size isn't a net benefit when he does so much extremely well. It's as useful as only talking about Ariana Grande's one flaw... she won't be sucking my dick.
She has another flaw: she won’t be sucking mine either.

As long as JBB respects spacing.. if he doesn't--and I have already lost all faith in him--I am hoping the FO steps in before he burns it down.

I actually rather have Garland over Brown regardless. Here's things Garland does. He can dribble the basketball. Brown literally can't. He can create his shot, get to the basket, and is one of the best pick and roll guards in the league.

He doesn't really have a flaw offensively. His defense is not that bad, either. He's not good, but I wouldn't say he's dreadful.

Am I saying Garland is flawless player? Absolutely not, he needs to cut down his turnover rate, and play with a lot more discipline.

I rather Garland tune his game up. He's still young, not even in his prime. He's still just 23. Why are some that down on him? He can't get better?

If I were Boston, I'd do it. I wouldn't if I were us. I think we'd be worse short-term, and long-term.

Not a fan of Brown. Don’t want a head case who can’t dribble / create, even if he is a plus defender. However, I am not convinced that Garland is a winning playoff basketball player. He seems to be very negatively impacted by defensive physicality. Maybe he can improve in that area.

My wish is that the Cavs figure out a way to get shooting at center. The only other option is that Mobley becomes a plus 3-point shooter and I don’t see that happening.

I want to see the added shooting next year before I get too negative but it feels like we have some bad fits that experience alone won’t fix.

And looking at the numbers closely, it's pretty evident Garland is a way better offensive player, right now, than Brown.

You can't just look at scoring and say, oh, Brown is better. All the important numbers point to Garland not just being better offensively, but being better PERIOD. Yes, I said it...

Garland's OBPM is higher, his ORtg is higher, his and plus and minus is higher, and his win share is higher than Jaylen Brown.

I'm just going to say it, Jaylen Brown is overrated, and Garland is better than him.

If I'm Boston, I'm doing JB for DG immediately.

A starting lineup of DG, White, Tatum, Porzingis, and Williams has the guard-wing-skilled shooting big trio surrounded by the 3 and D SG and garbage man defensive big. The play-making and spacing would be good.

I'd have them favorites to win it all. We are either way too down, or way too high on our players.

The Garland hate is too much. Brown is not an upgrade! lol Brown is pretty overrated, even his defense is very overrated.

He's a minus defensive player for his career. Completely over hyped, because he's on the Celtics.

I don't think Garland is perfect, but he's better than this bum.

But he's actually not a plus defender.

And he barely makes an impact on offense at all. Garland isn't a little better offensively, he's much better.

And Garland can still improve his game, too.

Did Garland throw a lot less lobs to Allen this past year? I feel like 2 years ago it was a staple play in the offense. Did teams figure it out?

Yes teams figured it out, but Mitchell had the ball enough that they were figuring things out offensively this past year. Hopefully a full offseason allows the coaches to come up with a more productive offense that leads to new opportunities for DG to JA/EM lobs
