Yet when confronted about how to get his team a new stadium, he tells the city and fans the team will move away for 3 years while it's built since the location isn't the one he wants. He can take his 'spending' on salary and shove it up his Smokey mountain.

Debates on funding for a new stadium can be had, but but where do you believe they could feasibly play in the area if the current site was torn down and rebuilt? Are they going to play at St. Ignatius?

The HOF stadium has an NFL press box but only seats 23,000. Maybe they could get the capacity to like 40,000 with temporary seating, but that’s probably stretching it. Infocision is the only other real option which is 30,000.

For 3 years? The same length as when they left? And why not Canton at least instead of Columbus? You are fooling yourself if you don't see this as a message from Haslam to the city and Browns fans.
Buffalo's new stadium isn't set to open until 2025 and they've already broken ground and did not need to worry about a demo. Three years doesn't seem like a message it seems like reality. City should just sell the land the Haslams want and let them pay for most of it...but they don't want to lose our on the lease or God forbid the parking revenue.

Zero percent chance that the lease and the parking make up for the 1B or whatever we're talking about for renovations.

"Let me build a new stadium out of my own pocket" is not something Haslam would ever put on the table.

Agreed, I'm just saying the city should call his bluff and only offer like 10% public funds and say go for it. Instead they've dug in on what I think everyone agrees is a bad position especially given the weight constraints at the current site aren't changing with a new building; which severely limits options (not even talking about a dome either)

I think those discussions and negotiations already happened--and what is reported now publicly is the final compromise.

I want a new stadium and a dome and all that--but I have a feeling we're going to be very happy with the final result. If the RoMoFiHo renovation is anything to go off of, it's going to be quite nice. Then add all of the development they plan to do around the site and I'm cautiously optimistic.

Canton really doesnt have the infrastructure to host legitimate NFL games, especially not if you were looking to add thousands of temporary seats. The HOF game cripples traffic in the city and parking is an absolute mess. You basically have to shuttle in from miles away unless you get "lucky" enough to find someone's yard to park in and help them pay off their mortgage. Not to mention, the Hall of Fame isn't really in a very good part of the city. Going just a few blocks in multiple directions puts fans in some dangerous spots. I cant imagine all of the tailgating and gameday activities having any chance of surviving and the traffic jams coming up and down 77 would stretch for miles, as there's really only one major highway in and out.

This isn't a Canton specific problem, but I'm also curious what the Browns do about season ticket holders. They cant possibly expect they would all be willing to drive an hour+ away for each game, but they also can't just decide that some STH's get tickets and other's don't right?

While I do think "threatening" Columbus is a negotiation tactic, I'm also not sure what the Haslam's legitimate options really are.

I said it when this news first broke out, but it really would be our luck to finally have a QB and have his prime years spent playing in Columbus.

"The program is an alternative to prosecution that offers a defendant a chance to avoid a criminal conviction and other punitive sanctions, including fines, community supervision, and incarceration, in return for their successful completion of the Program."

Yeah, I could see still getting repercussions from the NFL.

Mmm, if the city is insisting that it remains in the same location how are they supposed to play there while it's being torn down/rebuilt?
You build the stadium in the muni lot and after you tear down the old stadium you turn that into the new muni lot. Or you keep the old stadium and bring in an MLS team.

Is the current Muni Lot site big enough to have a football stadium? It doesn't seem like it would be big enough.

People complain about not having enough on the lake front, and the solution would be to tear down the stadium and put a parking lot in its’ place?

Also, can’t imagine the Haslam’s would be real thrilled about an MLS team in Cleveland when they own the Crew and just built a new stadium.
