I would have agreed with you prior to the Jefferson pickup but where does a iDL make this roster?I’ve been watching highlights all weekend of players that have been suggested we can possibly pick up. I don’t trust this team and wr’s their development, so I’m leaning towards DT with that 54 pick. Either way we’ll get a solid player.
So you’re thinking WR, DE, TE, LB? From the tape I watched, I would rank WR, TE, DE, LB as having the most depth thereI would have agreed with you prior to the Jefferson pickup but where does a iDL make this roster?
They’re typically carrying 9, with a chance of 10 DL — last year was first time under Berry they carried 10.. Garrett, Smith, Ogbo, Wright, Tomlinson, Jefferson and Harris are all likely locks..
That leaves 2, maybe 3 spots for: Hurst, Ika, McGuire and a draft pick.. I have a hard time seeing them cut Ika and McGuire given the recent draft capital they’ve invested.. So a iDL means you’re cutting Hurst and taking a $1M dead cap hit..
Ika had a hard enough time seeing the field as the 4th iDL, so spending a high draft pick in a guy who doesn’t see the field, and comes with a $1M dead cap hit doesn’t seem ideal..
Browns now have six picks -- I have a hard time seeing this roster having six open roster spots unless you want to cut some pretty good talent..So you’re thinking WR, DE, TE, LB? From the tape I watched, I would rank WR, TE, DE, LB as having the most depth there
Seems kind of smallThe more I dive into the draft, the one guy who seems like the perfect Browns guy is Michael Hall. The one yellow/red flag would just be the lack of snaps in his college career, but everything else is exactly what the Browns are looking for. Pass rush win rate, age, athleticism, premium position (pass rushing DT), positional need on the team…
I could see Berry viewing his lack of snaps as the only reason a prospect of his caliber is available in the 2nd/3rd round.
I think Benson can be "poor man's Chubb." I think he's a very good outside zone runner who has a blend of size and speed to take it to the house.
This is my guy in Rd2
Benson's an interesting prospect for sure. I'd just be curious where this would leave the Browns at RB, and what it could say about their faith in Chubb to start the year. Hypothecially, drafting Benson (or another day 2 RB) leaves the depth chart looking like this:
Cubb
Benson
Ford
Foreman
Hines
Chubb and Hines are both recovering from significant ligament tears in their knees that caused them to miss most or all of the season. I suppose it's possible one or both wind up starting the season on IR or the PUP list. Hines is the best receiver of the bunch and could be even more important with the changes to kick off. If you take an RB and everyone's healthy, it seems like Ford needs to go unless Hines just gets considered a dedicated returner vs. an RB.
Either way, it seems like taking an RB would signal someone is getting moved or someone isn't going to be ready for the start of the season.
