2024 Guardians Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If there is one thing I am slightly concerned with, it's Bo Naylor's SO% to start the year which is sitting at a hearty 37.5%, last year was 23%. Most other numbers look good though, so he could get hot real quick.

I prefer our 9 best hitters, rather then people trying to squint and see positives "as a 9th batter" in a poor hitter.

I don't think Rocchio is good enough with the bat or in the field to be one of those top 9 guys.

If we're going to paint our #9 hole hitter in the most favorable light possible, it sounds like the same arguments people used to make for Drew Stubbs or Myles Straw. At the end of the day, they just aren't good enough and should be moved on from.

I don't disagree with what he said as a general statement. However, I don't think Rocchio should be lumped in with the likes of Stubbs and Straw. I firmly believe he is going to be a better player than that.

I don't think the book is written on Rocchio.

I'm just saying the arguments of "Well, from our #9 hitter, he's doing these couple of things, so maybe he's alright?" don't fly with me.

I agree with that, but it applies to all and not just Rocchio. I'm sure if he continues to struggle that Vogt will send him to Columbus if he thinks that's the best choice for Brayan. Me, I think he's going to start hitting soon and make this conversation a moot point.

The ones that bother me are the guys that have short term control and don't contribute much on the field. Especially when there is a boatload of upper level talent that needs to be seen. I also hate the "club house leader" bullshit. Ever notice how that title seems to be given to guys that suck? LOL! Me, I think JRam and Josh set the tone for this club. The bust your ass on every play is so thick that you can cut it with a knife. We need to keep in mind that Antonetti and Chernoff focus as much on a players character as they do on their talent. That's what makes a good clubhouse, not a single player. The idea that the Guardians need a clubhouse leader is horse shit IMO. That clubhouse is full of good character from the top down.

We're winning and I'm not complaining because even if things take a turn for the worse the future looks fantastic for us Guardian fans. This team is good right now and I think it has a real chance to be historically good over the next 3-5 yrs.

Do you see any value in the role Hedges is playing?

Why is this team winning? Well, look no further.
2024 rankings followed by 2023 rankings:
Runs- 3rd, 27th
2B- 3rd, 6th
HR- 14th, 30th
OBP- 11th, 23rd
SLG- 5th, 29th
OPS- 7th, 27th

I think Hedges is a great guy and I'm sure he offers a good amount of knowledge, but his on the field value is negative and the numbers reveal that.

If this coaching staff wasn't riddled with catchers then I would believe differently, but as it stands I'd prefer Fry get Hedges reps and that his roster spot go to a guy that can help on the field.

My problem with Hedges is that he is a player on this team instead of a coach. In the end I'm not certain how much value the 25th or 26th man brings or how much they influence the success of a season. For me, it's the little bit of playing time that could benefit a younger talent that is going to be here for the next several seasons. If Hedges presence is that important then they should offer him a longterm extension.

I'm with you on this, I think this FO though places a lot of value on defense at the catcher position, they frankly don't see Fry as a backup

There are 140 games left in the season.
If we play .500 the rest of the way - that's 86 wins. Should be enough to win the division.
But we should be able to play better than .500. Williams, Henges, coming back. More offensive help should come by 2nd half.

I am thrilled with the start, but this team has major starting pitching concerns that could sink them at any time. For now, the hitting and bullpen has carried them. Best news is that everyone in their division has issues.

I don't know Zin. Fry is getting reps back there and I think that they might view him as the backup to Bo. Maybe you're right though and I've obviously had no conversations with any insiders about it so it's all best guess.
