So what the hell is going on with Will Dion?

Tommy Mace is a name to keep an eye on
Will Dion was never more than a 6th/7th starter due to lack of velocity. His command and spin pitches tend to play up less and less as he and better hitters advance.... But, I still think he has a future, possibly as a long-man or a Loogy.

I have him as a left handed version of Eli Morgan... Yes he can start, but his velocity just isn't good enough to stick as a starter, but he has normally good command and a very good off speed pitch, so the stuff plays way better from the pen (Aka going through the lineup once in a sense).

What's the deal on Petey Halpin? He's 18th out of 97 qualified Eastern League hitters in OPS. He's still 21 playing at AA with a line of .318/.857. That's 1.7 years younger than the league average. He was a 3rd round pick. Possible future starter in CF?

I don't think anyone really rules him out but the K's are still there now. I don't think he hits the ball hard enough where he can expect to produce much offensively if he isn't making absurd levels of contact.

You will know next off season since he is Rule 5 eligible, but at the current moment, he is due to get MLB at bats sometime in late 25/early 26...

I dunno man, lots of writes on him last year as the next SP that'll make everyone say "of course the Guardians have this guy, too". Even compared as a very Maddux-lite approach

Look at Eli Morgan...

5'10 and 190... 90 MPH fastball (as a starter) with a plus changeup and other pitches

Will Dion...

5'10 and 180... 90 MPH fastball with a plus changeup with other pitches...

Dion is a left handed version of Morgan in my mind... He mimics Kershaw, but I feel his comparable is a left handed Morgan... Hence why in my mind, I am replacing Morgan with Dion for 25...

Good stuff. I'm just pissed cause Dion's been my dude for a bit. Not a lot of gas but very good command and release point

A few thoughts...

1) Delauter had less than 250 pro at bats going into this year, only 28 in AA. He did play at three levels. No way he should have started in Columbus.

2) This org is very good at communicating, and Delauter knew that he was gonna begin the year in Akron before ST began. He even said so himself in an interview. If he would have been so disappointed that it somehow effected his performance, he would be a head case that we dont want.

3) It was media hype and the usual fan over expectation that led to speculation that Delauter would begin the season in Cleveland, which led to further speculation that he'd be stashed in Columbus for a month or so. It wasn't ever the plan for the org, no matter what he did in ST, because the FO isn't that stupid. (Remember the story of Bieber being hidden from Tito, so that he couldn't advocate for starting Biebs in the rotation.)

4) I guess that unless a teenager rips 500 ft dingers into the stands, they get labeled as not having power, ala Manzardo. But Manzardo has much higher ISOs than Naylor did in the minors, and keeps hitting home runs...and doubles.

Over the last two years, Manzardo has an XBH about every seven at bats. He's on the same pace this year. To illustrate how remarkable that is...

Nails career number is approximately one every 10. JRams is one every 8.7. JRams greatest season was arguably 2018, in which his was about one every 7.

Manzardo has no power like Jose has no power.

I'm not saying that Manzardo is gonna be Jose or Nails, but you get the idea.

5) The common expectation (I know it was mine.) was that Manzardo would be in Cleveland by Memorial Day. I'm not so sure now. The team is doing well. The home grown kids that the FO wanted to get a look at have done nothing yet that would make the FO give up on them. Plus, Manzardos defensive limitation means he isnt getting swapped in for, say, Rocchio or Freeman. At the moment he would be a roster downgrade from Fry.

When Manzardo gets here he is gonna get regular at bats, which means Vogts lineup flexibility, which is working so well, will be severely lessened.

If things go as they are, we may not see him until close to, or after, the break.

That the Guardians are playing above their heads and due for a regression?

I mean, this winning isn't sustainable for most/if not all teams so yea, they're gonna regress. But the team is pretty damn good.
