#8: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State University

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So...do we move on from him? Tons of SEC CB talent can be had in the 1st round.

Of course not. He just needs to be surrounded by a better secondary. They need to build the defense around his ability.

Hard to imagine him finding success in Cleveland. I think you shop him hard in the offseason. If he really has the talent that people say, we should be able to get a 5th or 6th.

Drafting another CB in the 1st round would be a really poor allocation of resources. The position has been so neutered by the rules regarding contact that it just isn't worth such a high pick. Not to mention the Browns have already used two 1st-rounders on CB in the last six years.

He just seems to be lacking everything. I cant even tell you what hes "good" at.

Fair point. We do have Dessir & K. Williams for depth. Hopefully Tramon isnt God awful when Joe comes back. We will still need someone to replace Whitner to give them help over the top. Not sure if Gipson stays, but he seems like a non-factor this season.

Justin Gilbert is to kickoff returns what Johnny Manziel is to impromptu scrambling. In both situations there could be something there but you're left wondering how we got there in the first place.

Sadly that makes sense.

You most definitely go into next season with Gilbert playing the role of tryout guy. Ideally, Farmer stumbled onto a late-round success in Ifo Ekpre-Olomu who had to "red-shirt" this season. Both situations are uncomfortable from the Browns' perspective.

I thought Ifo was getting moved to safety? I hope the kid out plays him tbh. That or pushes Gilbert to wake up. Odds are slim Gilbert ever gets it.

I would predict Gilbert gets cut during camp and does not make the 53 man roster.

What if if turns out the rest of Farmer's career that he royally fucks up every 1st and 2nd round pick he takes, but he just crushes it in UDFA and 6th-7th rounds and gets a bunch of 3rd to 4th round talent out of every player he lays his hands on.

Would that business model be enough to get him another job as a GM?

I ask because that's literally going to have to be his argument.

The Browns have absolutely zero talent...

First few pages of this thread were pretty depressing. At the time I was like everyone else: super excited that we were able to pick up a #1 pick while trading down to grab the guy I wanted the Browns to draft all along...
