#8: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State University

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
First few pages of this thread were pretty depressing. At the time I was like everyone else: super excited that we were able to pick up a #1 pick while trading down to grab the guy I wanted the Browns to draft all along...
As it turns out, actually meeting with and talking to the player you want to draft is kind of important. None of us could have seen him being this bad, but maybe Farmer might have if he actually evaluated the guy.

I thought Ifo was getting moved to safety? I hope the kid out plays him tbh. That or pushes Gilbert to wake up. Odds are slim Gilbert ever gets it.

That was b00bie's theory because he tackles very well for his position and will be coming off a knee injury. Nobody knows yet how well the knee responds by next year.

Reading the first page of this thread is depressing.

What, you mean my analysis of a youtube highlight film and some WalterFootball mock drafts was off?

But seriously, can't believe we thought we would be a stud. I know I said "double shutdown" a few times. smh

It's not like Gilbert's highlight film was a sham.

Kid can play, kid can't get out of his own way.

Honestly, that kind of makes it more depressing. Did we not interview this kid? Did we not interview his previous coaches? Surely some of these issues must have happened in the past to put some red flags on him, and it's not as if there wasn't at least one other equally talented CB available when we drafted him who probably didn't have those flags.

He's the poster child of a great athlete playing against inferior competition. Once he got to the pro's he realized he can't rely on just being bigger or faster or longer or more athletic than everyone else. He has to use his mind and technique to be successful. Unfortunately for him and the Browns, he has never learned that.

God, I wish there was a way to re-fire Farmer.

There is no chance in hell that guy ever GM's in this league again.

Probably scheduled the interview later in the afternoon and he didn't sleep through it.

Justin Gilbert is probably a punk kid who was given a free pass in school because he could play ball. He has all the talent, but never had to work hard because he was always bigger/stronger/ faster than everyone else. Now he acts like a spoiled little bitch who has to actually put in the time and work to be good. He's lucky I'm not Joel Bitonio, because if I were, Justin Gilbert would have the fear of God put in him.
