A closer look at Bradley Beal

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Like others have said, I would have major concerns with Beal if he measures out at anything less than 6'4". He's a nice athlete, but not nearly the kind you're looking for in drafting a 6'3" SG #2 or #3 overall. I'll gladly take MKG or even Drummond over him if that's the case. You can get more bang for your buck later in the round as well.

Included in the mynbadraft.com draft profile for Beal:

He possesses nearly unlimited range and is dependable from the free throw line. Since his junior year in high school, scouts have compared Beal’s shooting ability to that of Ray Allen. His shooting prowess especially showed itself in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, where he shot 8-19 from three point land in four tournament games.
Two other key elements that set him apart from the average division one shooting guard are his unselfishness and intense work ethic. Beal is a natural basketball player--he does not take many forced shots, attacks the rim when the opportunity presents itself, and makes smart decisions on passes. Also, Beal devotes significant time to making his game better--even in high school, he would come before school to shoot and would stay after practice to work on his shooting most days of the week, proving that he has known the value of working hard since a young age.

Bob Finnan's opinion:

In a perfect world, NBA teams would love their shooting guards to be in the 6-6 or 6-7 range.

But this isn't a perfect world. Ryan Blake, senior director of NBA scouting operations, has no problem with Beal being 6-3.

"He's listed as 6-5, but he's 6-3," Blake said in a telephone interview. "He plays bigger than that. He can play a couple positions. He can handle the ball.

"He's a good defender. He's not a great outside shooter. He's someone who can get inside and is fearless. He has a high (basketball) IQ. He lets the game come to him. He can step up when he needs to."

Some scouts are hung up on Beal's lack of height. Blake isn't one of them. Once the players get to Chicago for the NBA draft combine the first week of June, teams can get a gauge on Beal's height, weight and wing span.

At first i did NOT want Beal. I would be REALLY dissapointed with the Cavs but now, its not that i want him as if hes the only good player. If Beal's gone, id take MKG and vice versa but i wouldnt mind Barnes and a Fab Melo. Thats not the point though.

Ignore his height, hes a beast. i think, and correct me if im wrong, he averaged 6.7 rebounds a game. he can dribble, work on creating his own shot and become consistent.

I know that these two different opinions differ on a couple of things but a discussion has to have both sides of the story..

Ryan Blake is the son of long-time scout (and GM) and former NBA director of Scouting Services, Marty Blake. Job has run in the family since 1976. Here's basically what he does now:

Ryan says they don’t have a holistic approach to scouting; meaning, they don’t delve into everything about the player on the court and off. However, they do pay attention to more than just how a player performs during the game.

Their job is to find players and tell the teams who they should start taking a look at, and then it’s up to the individual teams to take it from there. Ryan’s organization has scouting all over the world, and they are on the NBA’s pre-draft committee. They don’t limit their scouting to games, either. They will attend practices as well.

They’ve cut back on scouting international players and D1 players, simply because NBA commissioner David Stern has decided that he wants the NBA teams to manage more of that themselves.

I prefer to believe that he doesn't exist and is merely a figment of the imagination.

Ya I don't see any real proof unless you're counting that Breaking Bad still they're pathetically trying to pass off as evidence of a real life "Ryan Blake". I call bullshit.

From just the snippets I've read from Blake on this site, he seems to be essentially a PR man for incoming rookies in general.

"Everybody's awesome, and can overcome their minor shortcomings because of other strenghts in their game.....blah, blah, blah......."

Blake .. he seems to be essentially a PR man

It's either that, or he's a mercy hire as part of an NBA community out reach for recidivistic crack heads-- Could be either.

I would still hope that at #4, we would still take Beal.

yup T-Rob might be picked by the Wizards, especially after the rumor that they want to get rid of Blatche and Lewis

Let the PS's of Beal in Cavs Uni begin...!

I'm still fairly confident that Beal will be there at 4. You would think that either Drummond or Robinson will jump up to 2 or 3.

Maybe I'm rationalizing, but I still think we're getting Beal.

Edit: PS=Photo Shop

Beal is still a very strong candidate. i also think MKG might fall. Yes he is the number 2 on most boards, but charlotte need offense badly, he provides little. The wizards could take him 3rd as he would change their attitude, but again trob might be a workout warrior and is a good fit with a drivign point guard like wall. I say theres a 10% chance he falls and 50% chance beal does

Beal could honestly go to the Bobcats though, that would be unexpected, but it would mean that we're either getting MKG or Drummond

Drummond/Barnes seems to be the worst nightmare on here.
