Addressing the hole at center

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
After seeing off season trades, and Varejao ' s extension, does anyone have any faith in griffin? I feel like the guys is in over his head, throwing around picks because he lucked out with LeBron wanting to come home.

Yes, he shouldn't have given 1st round picks, he should have demanded Brewer, he had the upper hand.
he shouldn't have signed Varejao to 10m extention, now instead of a real super team, we have 3 all stars in a flawed team.
Could have been much better and it just grinds my gears!

From Windhorst/Stein:

If Varejao is out for a significant period, it's believed that the Cavs will intensify their months-long efforts to trade for a big man. The team has been seeking additional help for their front line going back to the summer, having specifically targeted Timofey Mozgov of the Denver Nuggets and Kosta Koufos of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Sources say that the Cavs, in recent days, have been in contact with the Boston Celtics about working as a facilitator in three-team trade scenarios. The Celtics, blessed with frontcourt depth in the wake of their recent acquisition of Brandan Wright in the Rajon Rondo deal, have been aggressive recently in their attempts to acquire future draft picks.

"Facilitate" implies the player targeted by the Cavs is not on Boston's roster. I'm thinking something along the lines of Memphis sending the Cavs Koufos, while Wright ends up in Memphis, and the Celtics get a pick or two. Or a similar deal involving Denver and Mozgov.

I actually would prefer Wright over either of those guys. An athletic shot blocker who can finish around the basket at an incredible rate. I think he'd fit great here, and the Cavs would get his Bird rights this off-season. He's been around forever, but doesn't have a lot of mileage and is still only 27. So long as his salary is not aggregated with another Boston player, I believe he can be traded immediately and they wouldn't have to wait 60 days to trade him -- someone correct me if I am wrong on this.

That's correct.

I moved this thread into Cavs Talk since there's been even more chatter on the subject. Will move back to the Trade Forum if/when that fades.

I really hope this isn't a long term injury and allows us to get our biggest need of a defensive center filled. TPE for Wright/Crowder or Plumlee/Green? if Andy is indeed out for the season, they may want to look into an injured player exemption. Andy is definitely going to be a backup if/when he comes back. Tristan will prove himself.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have recently been in contact with the Boston Celtics about their interest in facilitating a three-team trade.

The Cavaliers are seeking frontcourt depth and have specifically targeted Timofey Mozgov and Kosta Koufos.

The Celtics are aggressively pursuing future draft picks.

The Cavs cannot trade their own 2015 first-round pick because they already sent their 2016 pick to the Celtics in a previous deal. But they do own a protected Memphis first-rounder that they could trade.

The Cavs also posses a $5.2 million trade exception to use in a potential deal, which is one of the reasons they sought Mozgov and Koufos, as both of their contracts could fit into that exception.

I wonder if we'll have to pull a patchwork and try to get a guy like JO AND Okafur if he becomes available. Really wouldn't trust either to give you 40 a night and we might need two vets since we can't depend on AV to eat up 20-30 a night

Would love to get Brandon Wright and JO: gives you solid defense at the 5. Less ideal would be something like Biyombo and Okafur. I remain intrigued by Biyombo who has put up excellent rebounding and shotblocking numbers as Charlotte's backup

does it work if denver gets wright, we get moz and boston gets memphis pick?

Our starting shooting guard, small forward, power forward, and Center are all now the same height.

Not quite lol. But it's definitely a concern. And I'm not too thrilled with any of the guys I'm hearing about really.

Wright certainly is intriguing although Koufos is a bigger body and overall better defensive player while Wright is a better offensive player. Would love any one of Wright, Mosgov, Koufos, or Biyombo with either JO or Okafor as a vet backup.

I don't fucking wanna give up the memphis pick :/
Wright Per 25 just saying

I think we see a patchwork job until we get closer to the deadline... Alex Kirk, come on down.
