Addressing the hole at center

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's a good thought, but I don't think that will be enough. Maybe if you remove the protection entirely, Boston would begin to listen, but I doubt that would even be enough.

I think the Memphis pick is what it would take. As I mentioned earlier and someone else mentioned up-thread, I would want one of Boston's extra second rounders, maybe the Cavs' own pick(s) in 2016 or 2017 (these are useful for trades). And I also like the idea of a side trade of Joe Harris for Jae Crowder, which would get the Cavs a wing defender with more athleticism who could be useful on this team.

Is there any other TPE still out there big enough to absorb Wright's $5M salary? Glancing through Steve Kyler's basketball-insiders site, I didn't see any. Maybe a team will emerge with a suitable expiring contract willing to trade a (presumably late) first rounder in 2015, but I wouldn't bet on it, and the Memphis pick arguably has more value to Boston anyway.

I like that idea. We need some toughness that he could bring to the table. Not a bad defender either. I really like Wright of course. I think in the right situation he can be a above average starting center

As someone who has followed Crowder throughout college up until now (check my post history, pretty sure I even made a Jae Crowder thread way back in 2012), I would do Crowder for Harris ten times out of ten. With Ray's decision potentially on the horizon, what do you have to lose?

If its a choice between starting Allen or Crowder it would be closer then people think but I would take Allen just based on experience. If its Crowder for Harris of course you do it without hesitation. Living in Dallas and watching Wright and Crowder both of them would be great additions without breaking the bank

No need to be sorry for well-conceived (if perhaps optimistic) trades in this thread.

This was moved from the Trades forum since there has been some smoke, so potential trade chatter is fine here.

That trade is clearly favorable to the Cavs, but I don't think it is unrealistic. I try only to post trades that are realistic and make sense for everyone. It might not be a trade the Knicks would be willing to make right now (some team may end up giving something of value for Dalembert), but I think it's a deal they make at the deadline.

When negotiating, you have to consider what the needs are of all parties involved. I think ideally a trade will satisfy everyone. (Now whether it is a good deal for everyone is another matter.)

One more point worth mentioning with this proposed trade (Koufos-Dally-TPE), is that if Koufos were to play well for the Cavs, and then were to re-sign this summer in the belief that he will be the starting center, he would want to be paid accordingly, and with Varejao slated to make $10M next year, that may be difficult budget-wise. Of course, if the Cavs give up effectively nothing for Koufos, if he walks in the off-season it's a lot more palatable.

I should clarify. I was suggesting the Harris for Crowder swap in connection with the proposed Wright deal, not as a standalone deal. It would be a way for the Cavs to get a bit more back from the Celtics in return for giving them a pretty good asset in the Memphis pick, better than they are likely to get for Wright from any other team. Of course, I have no idea what Boston thinks about the fact that Harris' contract next year is guaranteed. Cavs could substitute another minimum player like Amundson, I guess.

Really too bad we couldn't hold onto at least one of Zeller or Hawes. We could definitely use them on this team. They don't protect the rim but at least they can get rebounds.

Yea you'd think that management would've thought that out. Before the season started I remember Griffin saying that he wanted the fans to get passionately lost in the process. Well most of us are getting passionately lost but not for the right reasons.

I'm sure holding onto Zeller or Hawes was a matter of wanting to do it...

Hawes was a goner because we couldn't pay him and have cap room for LeBron. Zeller was dealt, perhaps hastily but as far as we know, necessarily to make the cap room for LeBron.

We need 3 players minimum. Not o'neill, not Koufos. Neither would help our trainwreck of a situation.

Oh PLEASE! This team needs a center, and could definitely use an athletic 2/3 that does not dominate the ball and is willing to guard, but to call the situation a trainwreck is laughable. 17-11, while underachieving for a team this talented, is far from dire staights. As someone mentioned a few posts below yours, what this team really needs is consistency, in the lineup, the system, and in performance and effort, especially on defense.

the lack of defensive personnel down low explains all of your points above

I've tried to point this out about 10 times but people just ignore it. You guys remember all of the talk about cap room when the LeBron rumors started and all the posts about getting enough cap space? All of those posts never factored in Hawes contract because it was just assumed he'd have to go before we could even begin to think about having enough room. No way to sign LeBron and keep Hawes.

People still dispute this? The writing was on the wall once the very notion of LBJ returning popped up. Same reason Gordon Hayward all of a sudden wasn't offered a contract after a "productive" meeting.
