Addressing the hole at center

Can you combine draft picks with a disabled player exemption?

Somewhat realistic Dream Scenario:
Mozgov for the TPE + Memphis Pick (We can still use the 2015 pick when Haywood's contract becomes attractive)
Wright for the disabled player exemption and lowering our draft protections for the pick Boston already has

I have no problem moving picks when they are for talented guys who fit need, are under 28, and who we would inherit their bird rights.

Trying to figure out what Denvers motivation will be though. I would think they will prefer to try and move McGee at the trade deadline. Mozgoz has the cheaper contract, is under contract for next year, and has played well for them. So I'd love to add him, and would consider the Memphis pick in a deal for him, but just wonder what Denver's willingness would be.
The Cavs have had the Bogans TPE and the Memphis pick all season and have been linked to Mozgov all season, so it would seem up until now that either Denver would do it for the Bogans TPE and Memphis pick but the Cavs have been balking, or the Cavs would do Mozgov for the Bogans TPE and the Memphis pick but Denver is balking.

Would be insanely awesome but never gonna happen

I'm guessing Boston is our only shot of getting a center because they are the only team who is interested in the Memphis pick since they're piling them up right now. What Boston wants to do apparently is get rid of Jeff Green and Brandon Bass.

So,

Boston get Memphis pick
Cavs get Mozgov
Nuggets get Green or Bass

Just trading the Memphis Pick straight to Denver makes the most sense.
-True they'd love to get rid of the McGee contract but that isn't happening anytime soon.
-They do want to cut salary though and while Mozgov contract is friendly: they have Nurkic waiting in the wings and money is money
-His contract relative to talent is just too friendly too just give away though: what would a rebuilding team want? A first rounder with the potential to be a nice lottery selection. Value for value

Here's the trade

Cavs trade TPE, remove pick restrictions for Boston and Grizzlies pick to recieve Mozgov

Boston trades zeller to nuggets and recieves an increased value to their asset

Nuggets receive Zeller and Grizzlies pick

Why for cavs? We get a center

Why for Boston? They are in asset collection mode and we made one of theirs more valuable

Why for nuggets? More playing time for Nurcik and receive a younger developing big in zeller. Nuggs can use the grizz pick themselves or package it with McGee to entice someone into taking his contract.

I could even see a secondary deal with Boston and nuggs where celtics take McGee and grizz pick. Cavs wouldn't be involved of course...

Get it done Griffin

Interesting little note about Koufos.

With him on court, MEM's DRtg is 101.2. With him off, it's 105.3.

With Gasol on court, MEM's DRtg is 105.6. With him off, it's 100.4. Memphis is slightly better this year with Gasol off the court (worse offensively but better defensively). It was also true last year. Weird. He's making much less of an impact defensively this year but is making more of an offensive impact.

Koufos's DRPM numbers are also slightly better than Gasol's. He's defending the rim better. He's also rebounding better. Alll of this is in limited minutes, of course, but still. I think he can be an excellent starting center for our team because he doesn't have to be great offensively which he is not.

But getting him...

As Pioneer says, I don't think it is realistic for Denver to think they can move McGee at this time, unless they take back an equally bad or worse contract.

It's conceivable the Cavs could get him for just the Haywood contract this off-season. Doubt they go that direction though.

As for Mozgov, it was certainly implied the Cavs offered the Memphis pick plus the TPE for him before the season started. It was reported the Cavs were dangling the Memphis pick, and Mozgov has long been rumored as a target. However, the way the story was being reported may not be an accurate reflection of the CLE-DEN discussions.

It's really hard for me to get a read on what Denver is trying to do or what their strategy is. For that reason, I always felt Mozgov was potentially available.

It's clear there's a standing offer for Mozgov of the Memphis pick and it's not enough... yet. Can wait and hope but it might be a waste of time that could be spent getting a guy in and building chemistry.

It's ironic the Cav's traded those two second rounders to Boston to get the TPE, those two second rounders might be enough for Wright. The Memphis first is too much for him. I wonder if Boston would trade Wright and the Philadelphia second rounder they're getting this year, (will be the 31st pick) for the TPE and Memphis pick. Then you could trade that second and the DPE for either another big or a defensive wing, (I'd target Shumpert but there are more of these guys than serviceable bigs.)

Tarik Black is a Laker, not that we had a chance to claim him.

Some interesting names besides the ones that have been talked about:

-Biyombo who is one of the best shotblockers in the league.
- Jeff Withey who is stuck at the bench in NO. Averaged 3.9 blocks in college and when Pelicans started him last year during 4 games he averaged 2.8 blocks.Only makes about 800 000 a year. Could be traded for Harris?

The art of pure shot blocking in the NBA is dead. Imo were better off looking at tall athletic smart guys. Ryan Hollins body type guys but with more IQ. In 5 years I could see shot blocking being non existent honestly. The way the game is officiated makes it hard for guys whose only job is to block shots to stay on the court, f they don't have the agility to block shots without fouling. Guys like Haywood and Hibbert and other stone footed bigs are about to die out like the dinosaurs.
