Alonzo Gee: Mr. April!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Alonzo Gee signs (3 years, $10M, final year not guaranteed)

Kyrie and Dion aren't going to be enough though. At some point, we are going to need serious offensive production at the 3.

Which means the return of a certain someone. Yup, you know who.....

SASHA Pavlovic!

All goofin aside, SF should be one of the easier positions to fill. Just ask the Cavaliers of vintage years who rolled out Winston Bennett and Chucky Brown. Wait...hold up....

There are plenty of teams with small forwards who don't offer serious production. We don't need a scoring small forward, I just think we need a better version of Gee. He isn't a lockdown defender, and struggles on the offensive end - which doesn't help our team. However, he is young and athletic, which I guess incorporates the majority of fringe nba players. We just don't have enough talent on this team - Gee would be a great young energy/bench guy on a contender.

He has become a much better player since he entered the league, at least you can see improvement.

Re: Alonzo Gee signs (3 years, $10M, final year not guaranteed)

I don't care if this game is over yet or not, this bastard is intensely frustrating. He does not fit in the starting rotation, is a ball stopper, and apparently he thinks his contract means he becomes the main cog in the offense.

He needs a reality check.

Re: Alonzo Gee signs

So I thought Gee had a really nice game ( or at least first half). He was really aggressive driving, and had some nice passes.

Re: Alonzo Gee signs

This is the type of game I envision Gee having consistently. Love the new wrinkle of him harassing the opposing teams PG. Offensively, he hit a high percentage of the corner 3's he took, finished on the break a few times, and even created for himself a few times. An active player like him would benefit even more if we had a true offensive post player at the 4 or 5.

Re: Alonzo Gee signs

Not sure why there's so much hating on Gee. He's a good bench player getting paid barely anything. You all see the contracts around the league. Look what fields, asik, and Taj Gibson got paid. Gee is being asked to do more because we suck. If he was on a good team and could jus focus on his true role he'd be a very solid bench player.

Re: Alonzo Gee signs

Agreed, but I also look at his age, his transition from a college PF to a NBA SF, his progress since he's been in Cleveland + a game like tonight and I think Gee has some serious upside beyond just a 6-7th man. Don't think he could ever be cornerstone but I could see him as the 4th/5th best player on a really good team in a few more years.

Re: Alonzo Gee signs

Would it be a smart move to put CJ Miles in the starting five and put Gee out there with the second unit? Miles is really frustrating me with his play, just throwing up poor shot after poor shot. I wonder if his game would be more restricted and fluent with the starters. And I rather see Gee take it strong to the hole against other bench players, than watching Miles shooting air balls and brick shots.

Re: Alonzo Gee signs

Gee isn't going anywhere until they get a star sf. His defense is too important for the starters. He is covering for Dion and Kyrie. I loved seeing him deny Jennings repeatedly.

I'm not sure. Miles was at his most efficient as 4th or 5th banana in a stacked Jazz starting lineup, so such a change might benefit him. But Miles and Gee are both players who can't really create their own offense (although Miles supposedly should have that skill) and unless we make changes to the second unit so it will have a good floor general and/or better offensive schemes, I doubt Gee will do much better as the main threat on the second unit. So I'd say it would probably be a lateral move.

Re: Alonzo Gee signs

for those who missed it, Byron Scott just raved on Gee's defense tonight. He called him one of the best perimeter defenders in the league.

Re: Alonzo Gee signs

If ever we contend Gee will still be our starter and play the Sefolosha role.

Re: Alonzo Gee signs

He did an admirable job against CP3. Saved Kyrie's energy for the offense tonight. Great job Gee!

He played great D tonight. I hope he'll have a better understanding of when to dribble and when not, and he'll be fine.
