American Horror Story

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
My girlfriend loves this show, as do most college girls. Lol

This show stinks. They stole the entire basis of the show off Dexter and his relationship with his dead father. Waaaay to complicated to keep up with too with all of these dead characters. Stupid stupid stupid show

And putting Dylan McDermott in any tv show is asking to get canceled. I think this show will stay on for a couple of seasons because it's being watched, but it's not for me.

Dexter's deceased adoptive father serves as a moral compass of sorts for Dexter, and the only "human" actions/emotions from Dexter are a result of him trying to honor the code that Harry taught him. Also, the visions that Dexter has involving his father are entirely within his mind and no one else can see them happening.

American Horror Story places a family of three in a haunted house where the line between life and afterlife is disturbingly thin with direct interactions between those presumed to be alive (the family) and those that have passed on. The characters that are from the netherworld seem to have intimate knowledge of the fears and weaknesses of the family allowing for their exploitation and creation of chaos in the real world (for example, note how the maid is viewed by Ben compared to Vivien).

Personally, I don't see much of a connection between Dexter and American Horror Story, but I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion

First time I've heard this show is doing well with college girls. Everyone I know that likes it is male.

They stole the entire basis of the show off Dexter and his relationship with his dead father. Waaaay to complicated to keep up with too with all of these dead characters.

Also the first time I've heard either of these opinions. I literally see zero commonalities between this and Dexter, but I've only seen a few episodes of Dexter. I haven't personally had any trouble tracking the dead characters. Has anyone else?

And putting Dylan McDermott in any tv show is asking to get canceled.

He's the worst part of the show. He's not a very good actor and he's naked far too much.

Either way...if you don't like the show, you don't like the show. I'm not gonna try to convince you.

The only similarity between this show and Dexter is the music. I noticed the theme song for this show is similar to Dexter's. Other than that, I don't see it.

I didn't mean to say the shows were similar, because if they were I'd like the show. All I'm saying as I can see them coming up with the idea through Dexter. His father is dead but still has contact with him. So they thought let's do that but it'll be just the house that allows the contact.. I don't know, it may be a stretch. I'm just not crazy about the show.

About the college girls thing, I know a lot of em that like it. I think it's mainly a couples thing. The guy wanted to watch it and the girl would watch it with you and got hooked.

I feel were about to find out some crazy shit with this baby in the next episode by the previews from last week.

I got fucking chills when the girl described the baby as having hooves. Ahhhhh fuck.

Also fuck you Jigo for starting the same thread as me....albeit a successful version......fuck your successful thread.

I thought this episode was boring. Nice cameo by the Modern Family. But that whole story was pointless, especially how he died.

The previews for next week looked good though.

Curious to see everyone's take on the season finale. I don't really like the direction their heading. They have essentially reshaped the entire show after only one season. I feel like it now moves to a focus on the kid and the lady more so then the family that was just built up the entire season. We already know no one is going to be moving in because they showed they weren't going to allow it (which could have been saved for next season). My theory is the kid and the old lady are going to move back into the house and from there who knows what will happen. I just feel like this ended as if this was the series finale. Felt like they laid it all out on the first season and left themselves very little to work with going forward.

I read yesterday that the creators of the show planned and are going to do an entire new story every season. Apparently this season's is complete although there's a chance characters could reappear in the future.
There will be a new cast, story and location each season. They won't all be haunted house type stories and there probably won't be another one either.

I actually think that's a good idea. I was wondering how they could continue this story over multiple seasons. Now they can pretty much go all out each season rather than dragging out stories and plots.

I'm guessing this is what you were referring to...

"American Horror Story" brought its first season to an end Wednesday night (Dec. 21) leaving the viewers wondering what is going to happen with the Harmon family and their supporting characters in Season 2. Executive producer Ryan Murphy spoke with the press Thursday and spilled all the details (without spoilers) for next season.

"The only thing I guess I will say about that is next year of the show, every season of the show, will be a different haunting," says Murphy. "What you saw in the finale was the end of the Harmon house and the second season of the show will be a brand new home or building to haunt, I guess is the proper way to put it. Just like this year, every season of the show will have a beginning, a middle and an end."

"That being said, what we're going to do with the actors is some of them will be coming back," Murphy continues. "and also new faces on the show, but [the returning actors] will be playing completely different characters. Completely different creatures and monsters, etc."

Murphy also says that this idea of an "anthology show" was the "design of the show from the beginning," which he thinks is a "cool, interesting way to tell a horror show."

Along with the new haunting, Murphy says there will be a new theme for the show.

"Every season also, along with being a new haunting, will also have a new overriding theme," says Murphy. "The theme of this year, as I've said many times, was 'infidelity.' Next year will have a different theme and a new cast of characters to go with it."

We won't have to wait to long to find out who makes up the new cast and what the new storyline will be. Murphy says the full cast and the storyline for Season 2 will probably be announced in February.

Don't worry - not all the faces from Season 1 will be gone, but mum's the word on which ones may return and in what capacity. But it won't be the same as the first season.

"Connie and Dylan will not be playing the leads on the show," says Murphy. "Their stories are done. People that will be coming back will be playing completely new characters."

"I love those characters and I mourn them, I will miss them," Murphy continues. "But I think the aspects of the show everyone loves, the mysteries and the love stories, will all be there in the second season, albeit with new actors and new characters ... I just hope that people who love the show, I can say with 100% optimism I think they will love the second season, perhaps moreso, based on what we have cooked up."

If you were a fan of the true crime aspect of the show - Mena Suvari as the Black Dahlia, for example - don't worry. That won't be going away.

"We will always have characters or real-life situations based on American true-horror crimes. I'm not interested in doing another house, just a house story. We're not going to move to Maine and do another haunted cottage," says Murphy. "There are all different types of American horror stories to tell."

"I'm really interested in serial killing stories or true crime stories or prison stories, so that's the thing. You can see as long as we all do our good work and people are continually interested, that every year on the show is almost a little miniseries in itself and can be a completely radically different type of show," he continues.

But there is one topic that is off limits.

"I wouldn't do a season about vampires," Murphy laughs. "But everything else is fair game. What we're planning now is very different from the California house approach."

We can hardly wait to find out.

After reading that it changes my opinion. Knowing that this season and story are concluded it makes sense. Also, makes me look forward to next season and what kind of story they have next. I like the idea of each story having a finite ending, not continuing to go on and on (a la lost).
