Anderson Varejao

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Most consistent player on the team?

By far?

So valuable.

Merriam Webster Online full definition of consistent:

1 archaic : possessing firmness or coherence

2
a : marked by harmony, regularity, or steady continuity : free from variation or contradiction (a consistent style in painting)
b : marked by agreement : compatible —usually used with with (statements not consistent with the truth)
c : showing steady conformity to character, profession, belief, or custom (a consistent patriot)

3: tending to be arbitrarily close to the true value of the parameter estimated as the sample becomes large (a consistent statistical estimator)

Varejao has averaged 30 mpg on the season and 32 in his last 10. So it appears brown is not going to kill Anderson. It was just a couple games brown rode him.

No doubt about the insufficient shooting from the bigs. Andy or Tristan either needs to take more and make them or we need to make a change to the bench, even if it sacrifices the quality of our starters. Zeller has the best shot but I could see us eventually going small ball with Deng at the 4, even if only for 8 minutes a night. The best thing to do would be to trade or sign a floor spacer or a legitimate threat to take pressure off them.

Question is: What will happen first to start the chain.
Andy is 2nd in the nba in mid range shooting efficacy.

Andy played like an all star last year until he got hurt and was lost for the season with a blood clot. He started off slow this year, but lately he's playing like an all star again.

He's averaging 11 points on .511 shooting, 15.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists and a PER of 22.19 through 10 games in January

Teams still don't guard varejao's mid range shot. He's out shooting love and no one guards him. Teams will give him that shot. Varejao is not a stretch big man. What has made him valuable is he's become the best rebounder in the nba.

Here's an example of Andy stretching the floor from each of the Cavs' last 3 games:

Portland: Robin Lopez defending Andy way out near the 3 pt line leaves the paint unprotected.

6sFFU

Andy slips a pass to Deng.

6sFIv

Deng easily converts the uncontested layup.

6sFIT

Denver: Andy gets an offensive board and Faried follows him back out of the paint. Kyrie takes off like a human missile toward the gap in the defense.

6sFLo

Andy passes to Kyrie.

6sFM6

And Kyrie makes the floater.

6sFND

Dallas: Dalembert guards Andy way outside the paint, leaving the basket totally unprotected.

6sFQ1

Deng cuts straight to the basket and Andy tosses him a beautiful lob.

6sFRB

Deng has to choose between the easy layup and passing to Miles for a wide open 3. He chooses the easy layup (selfish bastard! :chuckles:).

6sFRZ

You'll notice two of those plays involved Deng...Andy's averaging over 5 assists per game now that Deng's on the team. I could get used to this

Andy's effectiveness as a passer and mid range shooter will also lessen the physical workload on him. His effectiveness is far more than just his rebounding and defense now (as great as his rebounding is).

Andy is just money from the top of the key, and that really helps considering TT's shooting limitations. It's why I think they're both able to put up impressive numbers in so many games. But the relative shooting limitations of the Andy/TT combo means that they both tend to be around the basket, even if Andy is playing the high post. So that means that shooters/spacers are going to be a better fit than penetrators/slashers at the other positions.

I hope he gets traded to a team that deserves him. His effort is just wasted on this team and it would be nice for him to taste playoff basketball again before his body wears down. Love to see what he could do on a team like Portland since he's a better version of Lopez

Best player on the team right now, as far as I'm concerned. I never would have imagined Andy being this good in his prime. His overall game is awesome.

MAYBE I would trade him to a contender so he can win a championship but I love this guy & I want him to retire a Cavalier.

Yeah, I'm a fan of the Cavaliers, and even though I like Andy a lot, I'm not going to wish away his contribution just so that he gets to win a championship. It's not like getting a championship is the right of any person or player.

One thing about Andy is, I'm pretty damn sure that he wants to retire here. A player as good & relentless as he is, whose spent his entire career with this franchise and wants to retire here? That's not a guy you trade away in any event, imo.

He's a keeper, end of story.

What's going to happen in the future when we no longer have his incredible production?

People never talk about it, but it's gonna happen at some point and when it does, the whole team will take a huge step backwards IMO.

Andy is the heart and soul of this team, without him I firmly believe we'd only have 6-7 wins and be fully immersed in tank mode.
