Anderson Varejao

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Anderson Varejao is our untouchable

Not to mention the Clippers had Chris Paul AND the original trade to the Lakers was shot down.

Considering the teams Paul wanted to go to, the Clippers were probably 4th-5th on his list.

Speaking of injuries, I now hate Bogut and Bargs. If those two could stay healthy, the Raps and Bucks would pass the Cavs. Now? I don't see it... which sucks. At the end of the day, the 7 teams in front of the Cavs will make it, and the Knicks will jump them. Cleveland (most likely) won't make the playoffs, but they'll be 9th or 10th in the East, which is even worse than making it as a 7th or 8th seed.

I'm counting on some trades going down. There's no way in hell that Dan Gilbert will accept mediocrity. The guy hungers a championship more than any other GM. Count on that. He's learned a lot, and he's going to build this team the right way.

Re: Anderson Varejao is our untouchable

again the Clippers traded 2 high lottery picks (Gordon, Aminu) and another first rounder (the one they got from Minnesota) which will likely end up in the lottery as well. and sorry but if you think Tristan could have as much (or even more) value as Gordon next year you're crazy....

a trade comparable to what the Clippers gave up would be Kyrie (=Gordon) + Tristan (=Aminu) and our 2012 pick for Chris Paul and you think we have assets :thumbdown

Nonsense, Irving is worth more than everything the Clippers gave up for Paul combined. The Hornets didn't get equal value and didn't give up their best player, and at some point we can be in a position to get a proven player without giving equal value or giving up our best player.

I think I actually agree with you on this. Kyrie is a far better prospect than Gordon, and Aminu, that Wolve's pick is very valuable, but Kyrie is at this point projecting to be one of the best point guards in the NBA.

Kyrie is worth more than Gordon due to the position he plays (PG>SG value wise) but both have the potential to be among the top 5 at their position. you're never gonna get equal value trading a top 10 player in the league which i think Paul is but i love the deal for the Hornets if they get a top 5 pick in this draft and Minnesota stays in the lottery which i think they will i'm not sure which team i would rather have after the 2012 draft (depending on where we pick) so for a rebuilding team it was a great trade in my opinion and the Clippers gave up far more than you originally made it sound...

again my point is we don't have the same assets the Clippers had unless we basically make everyone available including Kyrie (Tristan and our late lottery 2012 pick is not gonna land you a superstar....)

Re: Anderson Varejao is our untouchable

I like the spirit of this thread.

I wouldn't say we'd never get equal value back but it seems pretty unlikely.

There's a lot of value to what he does on the court and if we're trying to win in the future it makes sense to keep him.

He is physically efficient and smart enough to continue playing well into his 30's. He doesn't have a lot of hops or speed to loose. He can keep playing like himself.

Kyrie, Scott, and the team seem to love him. Most of us fans do. Kind of ironic to hear talk from fans that his departure is inevitable.

Re: Anderson Varejao is our untouchable

Andy is a talented big man. Which seems harder and harder to find. By adding 1 contributing rookie next season, along with a couple of middle of the road free agents, and keeping Andy, the Cavs will be very much in the playoffs.
Along with good management and good coaching, you just don't know what will happen. Kyrie, TT, Gee continue to develop. By next season, Kyrie will be an unquestioned All-Star.

But here's the thing. The Cavs may never, ever be considered favorites again for the NBA crown. A few yews ago the stars aligned, but somebody's kahone's didn't. But we will become a contender soon. Dan Gilbert will make it happen.
No more bottom feeding.

Eric Gordon is very overrated.

Re: Anderson Varejao is our untouchable

One minor thing has annoyed me throughout this thread.

Varejao will be 29 years old throughout the season. He turns 30 next season.

Adding a year to his age to prove a point is a misrepresentation of how long he can last in this league. I personally don't want to pretend to know exactly how long Varejao can keep this high energy game up. None of us really know.

I do know he will turn 30 at the start of next season.

getting 9th is my biggest fear

Re: Anderson Varejao is our untouchable

varejao won the game tonight... the man is so valuable to this team

Re: Anderson Varejao is our untouchable

Yeah, Andy was RIDICULOUS. Such a great player.

Re: Anderson Varejao is our untouchable

Andy has also helped Kyrie immensely. Having someone so reliable on pick and roll, rebounding, and hustle plays makes it much easier for a point guard to run an offense. People that want to trade him need to realize that Kyrie benefits from Andy more than perhaps anyone on this team. Imagine if Hollins was the starting center. The man can barely set a pick and has a basketball IQ of somewhere between 0 and 1. Surrounding Kyrie with a bunch of chuckers/scrubs does nothing to help him gain confidence.

Re: Anderson Varejao is our untouchable

Agreed. They played a killer 2 man game today and that is valuable experience for KI. I still support trading Andy if it yields a worthwhile return, but he definitely has a lot of value to our team.
