Armchair QB/Coach Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Great idea for a thread. I wasn't sure whether to put this here or in the regular season topic, but can we discuss how badly Deshaun's passing mechanics break down at the very end of this clip? He seems to be aware of the problem, but holy crap.

Everything looks great up until the moment where he pulls the trigger on the throw. Maybe a little happy feet dancing. But something about how he strides into the throw and the follow through are totally FUBAR, almost like he's having a whole body muscle spasm. The result was one of the worm burner throws that should have been completed for a nice gain.

ETA: Watching a few more times it's almost like he rushed it for no reason. He had as clean a pocket as you can ever want even though it is closing fast thanks to Jed's weak blindside work. Deshaun doesn't really step into it at all because he's rushing it. His front foot doesn't go towards the target and it ends up being all arm with lots of body torque. Just a tiny step towards the target with better balance and this is probably a dime.

Deshaun claims he was dealing with full body cramps (IV at halftime) and he was gripping the ball too hard. Let’s see if removing that and the pouring rain as variables give us a non-shitty QB next week.

The above clip is the throw where the replay shows his foot sliding out from under him as he goes to firmly plant it and push off to throw. I remember watching that one live and being extremely frustrated and then saying, "oh, that one he just lost his footing"

Did you watch the video? He couldn't have been talking about this one, his foot doesn't slide out. His plant foot is solid. His lead foot, he just never steps into the throw. He leaves it off to the left. He's just off balance from the moment where he cocks, all the way through the follow through. I could maybe buy his front foot getting caught in the grass or something, not allowing him to step into the throw properly. It makes me was to go back and look at the rest of his throws to see the differences between the accurate throws and the worm burners.

That’s just a bad read/bad throw.

That’s gotta be a check down. Rushed or not, not a great idea on that throw.

The pick was very similar, IIRC, if someone can post the A22. Yeah, it’s tipped, but Njoku underneath probably for a first is passed prior to the scramble and pick.

?????

The receiver is wide open and if Watson makes an accurate throw it's like a 20 yard gain. He was a little late but maybe that's why he kind of rushed it.

Watching it again, I think ball placement is tanking my thought here.

The read looks worse because of the throw, good call.

Stand by my check down on the pick.

Even if that explains that rep his mechanics were all over the place the entire game

Again, it’s something he admitted to, but also given it was also quite bad last year do we need it to be exactly 82 degrees and cloudy for Watson to not look like shit?

I guess that's one of my concerns. I'm hopeful that Watson and our QB coaches can figure it out and fix it. But until he does he's going to be maddeningly inconsistent.

At what point will we collectively stop grasping the low hanging fruit of massage jokes? My lifetime? My child's lifetime?
The problem now is the joke is the joke.
