Browns Free Agency 2015

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I give the Cleveland media a lot of shit, but Jeremy Fowler knows what his job is. He's good at it.
I don't believe fowler is a Cleveland guy. He's a guy ESPN brought in to cover the browns with mcmanamon who is a Cleveland guy.

One of the few positives so far from drafting Johnny :chuckle:

Cobb resigned with the Packers for 4 years/$40 mil per ESPN.

EDIT: I know this isn't technically Browns related but there were some people that thought that the Browns should make a run at him.

Agreed, let Skrine walk if he's commanding too much money. They drafted Gilbert and Desir, and signed K'waun as a UDFA, last year for a reason. Plus there are other (cheaper) FA and draft options. The secondary isn't the problem. The front 7 and offense are. Spend the money there.

We're gonna miss Skrine-- he's a solid starter. You say the secondary isn't a problem, well, Skrine was a big part of that. Competed his bag off for someone who wasn't supposed to be anything other than a nickel. There's talent with K'Wuan, Desir and Gilbert but just not a lot of experience or extensive playing time. It's a risky move, especially for this defensive system.

I am not about just winning games next year, I am about winning games in the future, as well. Trading away draft picks for horrible ass Cutler, and drafting 2 WR at 12 & 19 would be bad. We would not be getting any young pieces on D. We would still be giving up 140 rushing yards/gm.

But I really hope that I am just tired and don't realize you are just "trolling" (hate that word) the shit out of us..
Trading for a top 10-15 QB that's 30 years old doesn't inhibit you from winning games in the future, having Cutler would stabilize our QB situation for at least the next 5 years. You could argue Cutler had weapons surrounding him in Chicago but he still to this day has never had an offensive line like the Browns are capable of surrounding him with.

His best year as a Bear came in 2013 where he only took 19 sacks, all other years he either finished top 10 in sacks or didn't finish the season because of injuries.

Maybe you could argue you don't have to pick a WR at 12 AND 19 but you sure as hell are gonna have to draft at least one WR with those picks, I wouldn't be opposed to taking a defensive player with one of them but there's nothing wrong with drafting WR at both.

As far as the defense, yeah we gave up a lot of rushing yards last year but I think our defense is capable of winning a superbowl as long as we have a competent offense to back it up. I think all of us have seen enough games to where the defense plays lights out first half of the year and then gets gassed in the second half of the season.

I think the defense is just a few pieces away from being set, football outsiders actually had us ranked as the 12th best defense last season. That's right, RIGHT up there with the Bengals & Ravens. The core we have now is a good mix of young pieces and veterans that aren't too old yet, it will be another good core for at least another 5 years. Signing Trent Cole would be a good move.

People are over thinking the Browns situation too hard, we were just 7 & fucking 4 with Brian Hoyer almost the whole year.. Jay Cutler is 10x the QB he is.

Do it Ray. Do it.

I know Mac is going to get a ton of money, but fuck it, he'd be a PERFECT fit here. He reminds me of Taylor Gabriel, but not midget style. He runs pretty good routes and is very good after the catch, which will be a premium in a WCO style offense passing game.

Get him and Holmes from Oakland then you don't have to worry about a 1st round WR.

I like Maclin a lot. It's still pretty wild how rabid the market is for him seems to be with him coming off the injury.

Still getting a kick of of someone saying Jay Cutler will stabilize anything for 5 years.

Oh but he only got sacked 19 times in 2013? Fantastic, he also only played in 11 games.

Dude is toxic and incredibly mediocre at an elite price. Between that and drafting two first round wide outs, I'd rather we just skip the next five years all together.

Cutler top 10-15? Well, he's not even close to top 10. Let's see if we can get him in the top 15 though.

Better QBs than Jay Cutler, in no particular order:

Definitely better:
Tom Brady
Aaron Rodgers
Drew Brees
Peyton Manning
Andrew Luck
Tony Romo
Matt Stafford
Ben Roethlisberger
Russ Wilson
Philip Rivers
Matt Ryan

Close:
Joe Flacco
Eli Manning
Colin Kaepernick
Cam Newton
Andy Dalton
Ryan Tannehill

If you can find a way to argue Cutler is better than any 2 of those last 6 guys, then maybe he's top 15. As much as Eli struggles, he's achieved a hell of a lot more than Cutler. And as conservative as Flacco plays, so has he. Kaep and Newton had bad seasons and I think Cam is a loser, just like Cutler. But both have two dimensional games and Cutler does not. Tannehill can be inconsistent, but he probably has about as many good to great games per year as Cutler

I think all of them are better and that Cutler falls in tied with Dalton just in the top 20.

I think Bridgewater and Carr have a chance at overtaking him in their third seasons, once Manning and Brady retire.

Cutler is a guy that will fall in the 15-20 range unless and until his losing mentality changes, and it won't.

He isn't worth what it would take to get him and he wouldn't take this franchise anywhere they couldn't go with a game manager that doesn't lose them games and piss off his receivers.

Maclin + Holmes would solve the WR issue QUICK

I'd even be alright with just Holmes to add some size. Holmes shouldn't command that much $$ either
