Browns free agency watch/rumor thread

Thaddeus Lewis was a guy the Rams fans really liked. Knows Shurmer's system and was very productive on a terrible Duke team.

As for Meriweather, who gives a shit. He may be a FS but he plays like a SS...and we already have that in Ward. Usama is much better in coverage.

In other news: the Browns claimed DE Quinton Spears from Prairie View A&M & Miami Dolphins...

So I would assume the Browns currently have three PS players: Thad Lewis (former Duke QB), Jarrett Brown and Spears...

I forgot that since the Browns claimed Thad Lewis and Quinton Spears, they go to the active roster and can't go to the practice squad... My guess is that someone like Pat Murray will be released for Lewis and Auston English/Derreck Robinson/Scott Paxson will be released to make room for Spears...

Looks like I was close:

#Browns awarded following players off waivers: QB Thaddeus Lewis (#Rams), LB Quinton Spears (#Dolphins) & DL Emmanuel Stephens (#Falcons).

They released:

#Browns also waived DL Auston English, LB Benjamin Jacobs & terminated contract of DL Derreck Robinson. #NFL

And signed to the PS:

#Browns signed 6 to practice squad: OL Dominic Alford, OL Jarrod Shaw, FB Tyler Clutts, RB Quinn Porter, DL Brian Sanford & WR Rod Windsor.

Still have two spots left on the PS... Wouldn't surprise me to see both English and Jacobs end up on the PS...

Heckert says they're not done yet:

My guess is to get another LB in here unless they see Spears as a SAM...

I liked J. Brown, but maybe someone else will take them for their PS.
 
Boy, I like English. I certainly hope he goes to the PS. The rookie could not have played any better this camp or done any more than he did.

I liked him too, and it would be good to have him around for depth, but he was playing against third stringers most of the time. Not to take anything away from the kid's talent, but his success could have been the product of playing against scrubs.

Hicks is 32 years old. I understand Heckert signed him in 2002 as an undrafted FA but is this guy really that good right now? Should we really be starting an aging vet when it's obviously a team that is getting younger and rebuilding? IDK.

I admit I know almost nothing about Hicks though.

Thomas-Hicks-Mack-Greco-Pashos

Then Hicks is the worst player on the line, but he isn't terrible. Better option than we have now.
 
He was part of the Eagles O-Line that went to the Super Bowl

Lauvao seems pretty much locked into RG. Either way, our OL does not look too good.

What do you mean our OL does not look too good? Thomas and Mack are better than any 2 OL players on any other team I can think of and the rest of the line is average.

I would agree if you say our backups on our OL doesn't look too good, they got beat like a drum in the preseason. As long as Thomas and Mack don't go down along with Steinbach I think we'll be fine though. Nobody has top tier players at every line position.
