Except the players love him. Just a heard an interview from a CIN guy(I believe their radio guy who is a former player) who said 95% of the players he coaches swear by the guy. He cited Terrance Newman as an example, saying the guy got the most out of him these last 2 years and basically turned his career completely around. Credited Zimmer with saving his career. Also, if you ever watched Vontaze Burfict play, the guy was an utter failure last year. He was awful. He'd take 75% of the plays off, which is why such a great prospect goes undrafted. Burfict is now a complete maniac who will end up being the Bengals starting MLB for years to come. He swears by Zimmer's influence on his life.

The story you are referencing was by one guy who sounds a bit miffed, imo. I'll take the words of all these players who have played for him and seem to overachieve consistantly.

Well to be fair, Fujita didnt refute the perception that he's an ass, he just said he appreciated that part of his personality. Zimmer also seems to treat the media like shit, which could be fun in this town.

Hey, Saban was my #1 choice since the day they fired Shurmur, and I'm warming to the Zimmer bandwagon. I just find the reaction humorous because it's classic Cleveland.

That said, we'll need a proven Offensive Coordinator to pair with him if he's the guy.

One of the crazy things about Zimmer is that he's been an NFL assistant for 18 years for 6 different head coaches (DC for 4 of them) yet has never been fired. He survived the Cowboys transition from Switzer > Gailey > Campo > Parcells, left Dallas for Atlanta when Parcells' future was up in the air, left Atlanta for Cincinnati when Petrino bailed and has been in Cincy ever since. Just food for thought but that says a lot about him as a coach.

Interesting...

@JasonColeYahoo
FWIW, if a team decides to hire Cincy DC Mike Zimmer as a head coach, it's almost assured that Hue Jackson will be OC. Good combo.

Zimmer reminds me of Buddy Ryan, only less abusive. There are questions regarding his ability to lead his peers, but as a coach of players his track record speaks for itself.

Going from Shurmur to Zimmer is like going from Kristen Stewart to Jack Nicholson.

Eh...I'd bang both of them.

I asked my buddy who is a die-hard Bengals fan (and a guy whos opinion I genuinely respect) about this and we had the following text exchange:

Me: Browns are interviewing Mike Zimmer for their HC position- thoughts?
Him: He'll be the best HC in the AFC North and the Bengals D will be bottom half. No joke.
Me: Neat. I thought I liked it and that cements it. Seems like exactly the tough son-of-a-bitch the Browns need after that patsy Shurmur.
Him: I've wanted us to make Marvin GM and Zimmer HC for a while.
Him: He's an ass kicker. Can't get a job because he interviews too "honestly"
Me: Rumor is he'd bring along Hue Jackson as OC - which I also like.
Him: Jesus...

Zimmer and Jackson would be a great pairing here...I hope his attitude in the interview in seen as a plus and not disrespectful.

Also, Arians is out of the hospital and resuming interviews. One of his 4 interviews has been cancelled, but it's not confirmed which one...CLE, SD, Philly, CHI.

I'd like to think we cancelled our interview and are moving forward with Zimmer.

Well I don't think SD is the one that cancelled because from everything I have read they love him, and I do not think CHI cancelled either because they are interviewing everybody, so it's probably one of Cleveland or Philly if I had to guess.

I want a batshit crazy coaching staff that would run through a wall for their players and vice versa. I also love it that Zimmer doesn't put up with underperforming morons who coast by because of their drafting position.

Probably wouldn't be the best situation for Weeden, but it would be for nearly everyone else.

I want Zimmer. Anything else seals it that Joe Banner is indeed a shrimp-lipped, Scrooge-like liability with vinegary balls, small hands and nostrils that are particularly sensitive to fart.

Bring me Zimmer or bring me AIDS.

Zimmer seems like just the sort of meat-hammer this team needs.

I'm in.

Well I cant get you Zimmer, but here you go.

Bad marketing is hilarious.

They had the misfortune of the disease being names 12 months after launching the product. Really wasn't bad marketing, just unfortunate.

The only problem is what happens if Zimmer calls Banner a gutless bastard (like he did Petrino) when Zimmer doesn't get his way and is overruled by Banner? You think NY is a circus with Rex Ryan? Zimmer may rip Banner's arms off and beat him with them.
