It's not because they 'couldn't sign someone'; it's the fact that they let their arogance get in the way of keeping Heckert here, when half of the problem was finding a competent GM at this point. I STILL don't understand the decision to let him go; they were more familiar with him than any other possible GM in the league, Heckert got praised around the league as being a highly skilled talent-finder..

..so what Jim Nutz?! Huh?? Do you and Joe Shrimp-lips have this perfect fantasy in your head of assembling the perfect combo of GM and head coach?! I have this feeling in my heart, that these guys don't know shit about football. Neither Jim Nutz (obvious) or Joe Shrimp-Lips. Looks to me as if they're chasing their own tails.

Another fucking year on the marry-go-round.

Saban is a known liar. I have no idea why anyone would take his word on anything. Not that I think he's leaving, but I sure as hell wouldn't take
his word on it.
Just like BK.

Fuck Jimmy Haslem, and fuck Joe Banner.

That's pretty much how I feel right now; and I don't think anything can change that.

What a great attitude...

The only thing Haslam and Banner have done so far is fire a regime that went 5-11, 4-12 and 5-11. Yes, Heckert improved the talent on the roster but when you're picking 4th, 6th and 7th, that's pretty much an expectation. We have an owner who said the two things you have to get right are head coach and quarterback. We had a regime who kept Mangini then hired Shurmur on one front and supplied us with Colt McCoy, Jake Delhomme, Seneca Wallace, Brandon Weeden and Thaddeus Lewis on the other.

Let's wait to see who they actually hire and see how they do before telling them to go jump off the 480 bridge. They seem like meticulous, thoughtful guys who will go to great lengths to find the right people to get this thing right. Who knows, maybe they'll surprise you?

I don't agree with the Heckert firing either, but they haven't even started interviewing GM's yet, so how do you know they'll have a problem finding one?

It's not uncommon, in the least bit, for a new ownership group to clean house & bring in their own guys. We may disagree with it, but it's not anything new.

Can confirm that an earlier report by national writer that Browns in Chicago to interview Marc Trestman is not true. #Browns

.

Most of the talent is already there! Of course the GM position is important, but it's not like the guy has come in and re-shape the entire roster from scratch.

We just need one guy whether its luck, or skill, to FINALLY find us our QB. Bottom line, for the last 20 years, we've had nothing remotely good enough at the position. All of them have failed miserably in that department.

I will say this, finding a QB is by far the hardest to do in any sport. You do need some luck involved, as much as skill. We've had neither.

On my phone, but Mary Schmitt Kay Cabot Boyer said that the Browns may pursue Gruden. (The Spider Two Y Banana Gruden)

Holy shit, that was such a poorly conducted train of thought.

Tell Mary that they "may" pursue a lot of people.

But there are some dots to connect (That Haslam likes Gruden). Haslam wanted Gruden to coach the Tennessee Volunteers. Haslam is a booster there.

An article from profootballtalk.com from 2.5 months ago:
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/11/28/report-gruden-to-get-browns-ownership-stake-in-offer-to-coach-vols/

WREG-TV in Memphis, Tenn. reported Tuesday night that the ESPN NFL analyst has an offer on the table to become the next head coach of the University of Tennessee with an interesting twist. According to the report, Gruden would be getting an ownership stake in the Cleveland Browns as part of the deal and a decision could be made as early as Wednesday.

New Browns owner Jimmy Haslam attended Tennessee and is a booster of the program. His father, Jim, played on the offensive line for the Volunteers in the early 1950s, including the 1951 National Championship team. The Browns owner also is a major Tennessee booster.

Immediately refuted by Keith Britton FWIW.

@KeithBritton86: I was just told #Browns will NOT target Jon Gruden or Jay Gruden for head coaching vacancy.

The Browns will approach Pat Shurmur to consider being re-hired. He'll turn them down in favor of the recent Montreal Alouettes head coach opening.

Mary Kay Cabot should just stop. The only thing she has managed to do during this entire thing is retweet people who do actual work.

I can't let them off the hook. The most attractive thing about the Browns is the young talent and near 50m in cap space. Even though I think it was completely ridiculous to get rid of Heckert, I understood if it meant they were getting a big-time coach. Now it doesn't seem likely that will happen. That means that Banner failed on two fronts. They said that Heckert would be evaluated on his record. He wasn't. He was pushed out the door because of ego. You don't clean out the guys that are good, guys that deserve to be around. They did it, we can't do anything about it, we have to live with it, but I'm going to call them out on what is now a complete fuck up. Anybody we got was going to be better than Shurmur. Not really likely to find a guy better than Heckert. Even if we do, there was no reason to risk it. I was fine with Banner when he had done nothing, now he's done something and I don't like it. Bottom line is that we're not in as good of a position as we were in and Banner is responsible. Time for Jimmy to pull up on the leash a bit.

Side-note: The media has absolutely embarrassed themselves. Worse, some of them don't seem to know when to quit.
