Re: Casspi's Poodelish performance thus far

Casspi is showing signs of improvement and seems to be fitting in much better. He's been passing well lately for the most part and his ball movement within the offense looks better. Was nice to see him attack the basket a couple of times too. Still pretty weak defensively and doesn't exactly have elite lateral quickness which is a problem in defending SF's.
Casspi has been poor so far so there's really only one way for him to go.

Current combo of starters and bench players still seems to be working well so I'd stuck with it for now.

Meh...that's kinda true, but I think Scott should change the timing of his rotations. I would like to see Jamison rest sooner, and TT come in asap so that Irving and TT can get minutes together more often. Also, I think Irving needs to play more minutes in the 4th quarter.

Notice something?
Caspi plus 14, Gee minus 10.
Second game in a row Caspi was easily better!

Full body of work, Omri is simply a better player. I like Gee. But I knew from the get go, considering the games I've seen from him against top tier teams in Sactown, Omri had performances Gee never had.

Now, it is on Omri stringing perhaps the worst 10 games of his young NBA career, to start his run with the Cavs.

Re: Casspi's Poodelish performance thus far

Looks like some people are going to need to recant calling Casspi horrible and not a long term piece.

The last couple games don't prove anything, but it certainly shows that he deserves more time to continue to get healthy and to learn the system.

Oh...and LOL at people throwing Gee under the bus already. Why is everyone so quick to judge either positively or negatively based on one or two performances? This is getting old.

Re: Casspi's Poodelish performance thus far

Call the fire department, he's gone full blown Schnauzer.

Re: Casspi's Poodelish performance thus far

I actually thought Gee played well tonight. He got a quick 5 points in the 4th quarter that went a long with the victory.
It would be nice to have both Casspi and Gee play well. I don't think either are that great but if they show there are good rotation quality players makes our draft needs a lot smaller.

Just center and SG rather then have to try to get 3 starters for next year

Let's be honest, Casspi and Gee will have 0 impact on how we draft.

Agree up to a point: the 2 and 3 are pretty interchangeable so if the BPA is a SF the Cavs will obviously take it with our first draft pick. I do think it may impact us though on other moves and if are able to acquire later draft picks what kind of players we pick there. Knowing that we have NBA level (not necessarily starter calibre) players at the SF, the Cavs may go for a project at C or SG rather then a SF at that stage

If only we could combine the best qualities of Gee and Casspi. Then we'd have a pretty good SF...

I still like em both though, and I'm not sure why it has to be one vs. the other.

Re: Casspi's Poodelish performance thus far

It seems there was a deliberate effort to utilize Omri's ability to run the court fast and hard and get ahead of the field. He burned Charlotte 3 times like that.

I have to say I don't remember in Omri's 2 years in Sac such a stretch like the 3rd q against the cats. Obviously the 3 and 1's are kinda flukey, but in Sac even though Omri finished many breaks and his motor was recognized there was never time when such a sequence that had direct impact on the outcome of a game occurred.
I guess that is mostly because the Kings under Westfail plainly smoked cocks.

Re: Casspi's Poodelish performance thus far

I noticed this watching Omri tonight, but Scott needs to do a better job getting him the ball for corner 3's. He was top 5 in the league shooting the corner 3 last season, but now it seems like most of his 3's are spot ups from either wing (a few feet longer) where he's just not as comfortable.

While I think this is a good idea, this is probably towards the end of Scott's list of worries right now.

Re: Casspi's Poodelish performance thus far

From the PD:
----

Picking it up: Omri Casspi's first 10 games were a study in frustration. He couldn't locate his jump shot or his confidence.

But in the previous two games, Casspi has averaged 12.5 points in part because he's taking the ball to the rim. He was 8-of-17 from the floor and got to the foul line nine times. In the prior 10 games he earned just 10 free throws.

"You need to be aggressive all the time and the first seven or eight games I wasn't myself," Casspi said. "I wasn't shy about it, I said 'That's not me out there.' I put a lot of pressure on myself. Now, I feel more comfortable getting to the rim, getting to the line and rebounding the ball. And, my knee is feeling better."

Re: Casspi's Poodelish performance thus far

Maybe they can start appreciating his defense now
