Plus, am I crazy in that I'd rather have Shumpert than Wade?

No. Many of us feel the same way.. wouldn't trade Shumpert for Wade at all. At this point, Shumpert is more valuable and has greater potential. Wade's value has flatlined and is declining. Especially so if his asking price rumors are true.

Nah man...

Wade > Shumpert and will be for at least the next season. I wouldn't want to trade Shumpert for Wade, but I would if it was the only way to get it done and the comparative salaries were around ($11M vs $16M).

I'd trade him for Wade in a heartbeat if we only lost picks/Haywood with Shump.

LeBron's facebook page put up a pic of Wade and asked "Any Wade fans in here?" I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

I'd rather see Wade stay in Miami (and I think he will) than go anywhere else (besides Cleveland).

Who are the top candidates if we keep our pick? Haven't paid much attention to draft talk this offseason considering it will be a low pick or traded...

What exactly is Shumpert's value then? Because the Cavs didn't give up anything for him, and his numbers here are exactly the same as they were in New York.

Good question.

With Cavs making it widely known they want to trade the pick; whoever we pick on draft night might not even be in our plans (might have been picked for another team). So, not much attention has been paid to the pick for that reason I think.

I think many of us are hoping that Shumpert figures it out and has a Whiteside-esque epiphany turning into an All-Star at some point in his near-future.

It's possible.

He has the athletic skill, although he could work on that, he has a good shooting stroke, and good fundamentals. He's got decent ball-handling skills, and above average defense.

Shump is a baller, but he's also a project that needs a great deal of development to really pan out.

That's one of the reasons I want to keep him; but he is a project, and Wade is a known commodity.

One could make the argument that Shump will drastically improve over the next 2-3 seasons and be a starting caliber wing in that time (maybe more); but one could also make the argument that Wade, on limited minutes and as the 4th option on offense and having little defensive responsibilities, could significantly increase his window of being a top-tier shooting guard.

That's why, from my perspective, Wade makes the most sense out of any option on the table. He can do things that Shump simply can't do, and won't be able to do, and we only really need him in the playoffs. Our Big 3 will get us to the Finals regardless of whether or not Shump or Wade is on the team. Once there, we need our supporting cast to pick up any slack or step up if players are injured.

I'd have a lot more confidence going into a game with James and Wade than I would with James and Shump or JR Smith; for obvious reasons.

Well, the perception was that JR Smith was addition by subtraction, including a player option for next year. Nobody wanted him, and the Knicks had to give away something to get rid off him. So whatever the value to NY of getting rid of JR and his contract, that's at least part of Shump's worth.

Wade was 24th in the league in PER. He is still very good. Not sure about his defense though.

His PER was high due to carrying a very high usage of 34.7, which was the second highest in the league. Wade certainly provides a very valuable contribution in a vacuum with his bulk scoring and shot creation. However, on the Cavs this ability is redundant, and actually, imo, detrimental, given that both Lebron and Irving are much more efficient when creating their own shots and also allow for better shots for others with their passing and spacing.

I simply do not think that Wade's style and skillset lends itself to complementing Lebron and Irving (and to a lesser extent Love) considering his lack of range and that he requires isolation situations.

Further, his numbers indicate a scary likelihood that he is in drastic decline. His true shooting dropped from .588 in 2014, .566 career, to .534. Attempts at the rim went from 35.3% of his shots in 2014, 36.4% career, to 22.9%.

However, to counter those numbers, he finished at the rim slightly better than his career numbers at 68.% versus 66.2% for his career and just slightly down from 70.3% from 2014. He was assisted on fewer shots this year which could explain why his efficiency declined and he was not able to get to the rim as often. And his free throw attempts per 36 remained in line with his previous 4 years.

Still, are you willing to gamble that those numbers on a 34 year old wing who has largely relied on freak athleticism, and who has been severely hampered by injuries for extended stretches over the course of the last few years, do not indicate a very high risk?

And then you must take into account ego considerations and personality chemistry,
