Aren't NBA teams usually asked for consent when it comes to their players playing internationally or in the Olympics? I thought the Cavs actually denied a player from playing before (can't recall if it were Z, Andy or Pavs but really thought it had come up once prior). Either way, I still think anyone should be allowed to play for their country if they want to. Risk of injury is part of sports, and anyone can tear their ACL just as easily at a pickup game or practice. It sucks for the Jazz, but I don't blame Exum for wanting to be there for his country.

The Exum injury does illustrate why Delly was willing to cave and accept the QO. Cavs were able to use his participation with the Australian national team to their advantage.

The only reason Delly would cave to any deal, let alone any player is if the Cavs had ultimate leverage over him (they don't) or he was already injured. The man did not cave, but the market set his value at around the QO so thats all he could have signed. The international play had nothing to do with it..... never penalised Andy in the past for playing with Brazil...... Cavs were concerned about Luxury bill (no sh*t i would be too:celb (13):) so made Money not an issue but to incentivise, shortened the deal to 1 year so Delly becomes Unrestricted next year basically betting on himself much like TT did not signing a extension last year. (they were originally working on a $3-5 Mill 3 year deal as Cavs tax bill skyrocketed)

It had to do with Z and it was a unique situation because of his injury history. I'm pretty sure he was denied because he couldn't get insurance on his contract.

Delly will be still restricted next year.

"Cave" was too strong, and I didn't say Delly was "penalized" by the Cavs or by anyone or anything else. But it was reported/suggested that Dellavedova wanted to get a deal done before he played this summer. I don't think it's a stretch to think he would remain unsigned today if he hadn't wanted to play this summer. Anyway, when some "sources" were saying he was going to be offered $4-5M per year, I was highly skeptical. So yes I agree no team apparently wanted to pay him more than the Cavs were presumed to be willing to match.

These RFA situations are admittedly really tricky and hard to predict. If a player ends up signing the QO, that doesn't mean that's what his fair market value is (and fair market value in the NBA doesn't really exist anyway due to how the CBA affects the market).

I've been on the Markieff wagon for a little minute now. I definitely wouldn't mind him here. He could definitely give us security.

8M > 16.

Markieff is the good one. He would be a good addition if we weren't already stacked in the front court.

A little more depth won't hurt. You saw how much it helped Golden State.

Yeah, the other problem though is that a young, good, and locked in for cheap (in today's standards) isn't getting salary dumped.

I also don't think a sign and trade with TT makes sense for either side, since Phoenix just signed an older version of TT in Chandler (and don't make sense playing next to each other) and if we got Markieff we would have two power forwards more known for their offense and would leave only Andy to hold down the middle if something happened to Moz (unless we are serious about signing Kahn and believe he could be capable).

Either way, I would be open to adding him as a player because I like his game, but I just don't think it happens.
