As a Raptors fan, I would be curious in which areas you are thinking when you refer to potential.
I made that comment in comparison to TT, so....
JV is a better rebounder and shot-blocker, but let's just talk about shooting
In his 4th year in the league, TT shot
below 35% between 3-10, and only 31% from 10-16 feet. And considering that he's generally not even guarded from that distance, that's just horrible.
In contrast, JV shot
50% from 3-10, and nearly
40% from 10-16. And he's a good free throw shooter.
He's in a different universe of offensive potential than TT, with legitimate potential to stretch the defense. Not that there aren't flaws in his game, and he's certainly got things to work on, but at least he's got some basic offensive skills with which to work. TT's shooting is just horrible, and always has been.
ETA: Yeah, the initial numbers on TT were wrong (now corrected). My mistake. BUT, here's something fun in terms of the comparison. For 2 point shots outside of 3 feet, more than 100 attempts
JV was 14th in the entire league at 47.5%. And that's on 322 shots, so it's not a fluke.
By comparison,
TT was 238th, at 34%.
So to get back to the initial point, JV would seem to have an entire world of offensive potential that TT simply has not demonstrated.
