Damn I want the Cavs to sign JR but I didn't figure they would do it on his terms...3/7 should get this done.
Personally, I don't like allocating Haywood's contract towards another SG; it leaves us more vulnerable at other spots, primarily the SF which I figured was the end goal. Minus the Finals, JR played extremely well for us this year (his suspension notwithstanding). I fail to see who we're going to get better. And if we were ambivalent about signing him, why didn't we just draft RJ Hunter?
Because Hunter is a rookie, and rookies don't play on a championship team.
My guess is that we are targeting a 2/3 wing. It doesn't make sense to get a pure 3, because Lebron will fill that role 42 minutes a game in the playoffs. If Lebron is hurt, then you aren't winning a championship anyway, so no true 3 really fits.
Could go the 3/4 route, but we already have James Jones and Mike Miller who can fill that role.
What we really lack is another guy besides LBJ and Kyrie who can make their own shots, attack teams off the dribble and score. You can place JR Smith in that role, but he isn't an effective creator, and he can't guard 3s. Iman Shumpert is limited offensively, and works better as 3/D inside a system. In theory a big two who can score and slide to the 3 for 8 MPG while Lebron rests would be optimal.
I think the best fits would be something like:
DeMar Derozan -- Doubt he will be traded for nothing
Tyreke Evans -- Same, Can't see him being traded
Joe Johnson -- Can't afford him
Lance Stephenson - Could see him being traded again, if the Clippers don't get Jordan, do you really want him though?
Wilson Chandler?
